Looks like a decent spec for the money. Not sure what you want to use it for though so hard to say if it's good value for you.

Incidentally if you do buy it from Comet you can purchase Comet vouchers at a 13% discount by using a virgin credit card and using the virgin members shop.
This has saved me quite a bit.

It wouldn't be up to much gaming as it only has integrated graphics.

I know it's not cheap at all, but as far as laptops go is this a good one ?.

I'm tempted as i want a laptop, but i've always said i'll only get one if it's faster than my desktop PC which is 2.6ghz.

It's a well specced machine - bear in mind I bought an acer aspire with very simialr features but with a better graphics card (X700 256MB) but less fast chip for £630 recently (had and AMD Turion 1.8Ghz). You are paying an awful lot for that chip i would say.

It's hard to find a machine that will game well at that price. I managed to pick up an acer aspire for £630 - lookup 5024wlmi in this thread for the full spec. It runs Pro Evo 5 on high settings very well. Haven't tried it for anything else as yet but i reckon it was good value.

MSE user Kettle also got one and i think he was fairly pleased.

If you can find anywhere with stock i'd get one of these - but they sold out at a lot of places as the price was dropped as it's an end of line model.

The 5024, like hillfly being run down stock wise. there are still a few places selling it for around £500. Try ebuyer, laptopsdirect, technoworld, laptopshop as some examples.

Have a look at the Aspire 5502/5504 as well.

What is the lowest, cheapest spec for a laptop that will run games? Any good bargains on around on that sort of laptop?

I'm going abroad in a few months, so i want to replace my desktop with something i can take with me. I mainly use it for internet, videos, music and the odd game. Would probably want something that could manage Half Life 2 at a playable FPS - but it wouldn't need to storm the newest games or anything.

I'll pay what i need to pay, but i don't want to spend a fotune if it isn't needed.

Would memory, clock speed or graphics card be the top priority? If so what would be recommended for each?

Also, is it worth waiting for duo-core laptops to become more widely available? (either because they will be better, or because they will cause single core prices to drop)
    stay lucky!
    Steve.
