Worst case - you can get a full refund from acernotebooks under the distance selling regulations.
However i have heard some good things about acer warranty support. Why not give them a try first? It might be a pain in the jacksy but at least you'll get the lappy you want at the end of it?

Hi Hillfly and thanks for your reply. I think I'll have to go down the warrenty route. I've been looking up their warranty online and found THIS. This thread has been running since 2004 till present and is full of issues with Acer's support

So, it doesn't fill me with hope.

Oh dear that doesn't read well - just remember most people with problems post reports - those who don't have trouble don't tend to post so the web is awash with negative views.
