I'm looking at buying a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop but wanted to know which is the best processor - Intel Pentium dual core or Intel Celeron dual core?

Also if anyone has this laptop and has any comments , please let me know.

Thanks in advance for any advice

  • am looking to buy a cheap laptop mainly for internet use, with a bit of iplayer, microsoft office use aswell, and was likely to buy the £300 acer laptop on amazon / play etc.

what advantages would be £330 acer machine (with core 2 duo) on play.com have over the cheaper model?

won't be playing games or anything like that much so i don't see the extra £30 being worth it, unless anyone would beg to differ?!

    many thanks in advance!

any processer is fine for that, I would concentrate more on what kidn of laptop you are looking for in terms of battery life, size etc.

core 2 duo is indeed the best processer around, but its overkill for internet browsing and basic home use

    Hi all
Is this a decent enough laptop for the price? Just decided to update my computer which is 6 years old and decided to go for a laptop for taking up less space. It would mainly be used for the internet and to play games.

Its okay !! same as the laptops above at a lower price. When you buy a computer you have to decide which games you want to use it for. With lower spec games you will probably get away with this or similar type computers but if you want it to be able to play the latest games at high definition then you will need a computer with a separate graphics card which cost a lot more. You get what you pay for !!

That one has got a separate graphics card according to the description.

Personally I think it's a pretty decent laptop for the money.
  • I've read thro the advice on cheap laptops and I'm getting more confused as I go on - have no technical savvy whatsoever.

For £300 I'm looking to download music, burn cds, surf internet, do a bit of word processing.

Is there any difference in buying a laptop and a pc monitor package (seem to be same price) apart from space saving and the fact you can take your laptop with you?

    Thanks.
  • Don't forget to order through quidco.com to get a further 4% or 5% off Dell prices. I'm looking at getting a Vostro 1510 for about £385 inc VAT and delivery and an upgrade to Windows XP. I'd highly recommend installing XP instead of Vista unless you are buying a very high spec system.
  • shebanjoed - generally you get a better spec for the same money if you buy a desktop, and it is easier and cheaper to upgrade later on.
