The Great 'Cheapest Decent Laptop' Hunt

People dont Like DELL becuase they use non-standard parts. If anything breaks or falls off you have to buy the replacement from DELL. Thats for their desktop machines, I quite like ACER desktop and would hope their laptop's are just as good. But they are all made to a price point, and none are really robust (except TOUGHBOOK and army models)tribuo veneratio ut alius quod they mos veneratio vos0

Agreed, I would avoid buying a Dell desktop as I like to upgrade and poke around inside, plus the locked BIOS is annoying (No overclocking). But for a laptop, you aren't going to be doing any of those things anyway. Plus they are a very large company, so they can take advantage of the economies of scale to buy everything for massive discounts. I've had a Latitude D800 for 3 years now. Its dated, but held up extremely well considering how I've treated it. Lots of scuff marks, and I did manage to kill the DVD drive, but other than that its been great.0

I wanna Laptop for 10Yr Old - ADVICE PLEASE
Hi, want to go out and get my son new laptop today, approx up to £700, approx. 15 inch scrren with the crystalbrite, wireless and webcam. This is all i know he def will require, the rest confuses me!!
Please can anyone advise to which is best pentium etc. He likes to play the sims and rollercoater tycoon type games, so would need graphics that are suitable for that.
I have tried looking on tesco.com are they are offering double points at moment, but don't really understand the gb's, rams and graphics. Saw this one - HP Pavillion tx2530 ZM-80 2GB 12.1" Laptop. Anyone recommend one from there or anywhere else. Thanks in advance:j0 -
I bought a Dell Vostro about 5 months ago when the new Intel Penryn chips were coming in and they were selling off the old chips. Plus they had a special offer on which was £100 off and also free delivery.
I paid £528 inc VAT for an Intel Centrino Dual Core 2.5Ghz, 4GB RAM, 320 GB HD, 8400 GS Graphics , 1440x900 screen, and N-WiFi card.
The same system costs about £200 more today, so I think I got a bargain0 -

Try amazon.co.uk and you can get a decent new laptop for less than £500. Make sure it has at least 2GB RAM, a seperate graphics card and a dual core processor and you wont go far wrong.0 -
You can get some great deals at https://www.ebuyer.com. I have used them for memory cards and other bits and have always been happy with the service. Most products have reviews from customers so you can get a real idea of how good or bad the item is.
