Is Aldi's computer stuff any good? Thought the md98200 was a bargin at £550ish, but now I'm not so sure. My only requirement really is a basic computer that is easy to use and very reliable, but I'm very impatient so it needs to be fast. So probably a dual processor is essential.

  • I'm looking for a laptop right now to replace my desktop, know what I'm looking for but don't know where to look or what names to go for or if what I'm looking for is feasible within my budget:

Budget £500 (I don't pay VAT with Dell so budget can go a bit higher with them).

RAM - Not too fussed, think my desktop has 512MB which has done me fine.

CPU - Like the RAM, as good as my desktop which ain't much would be fine.

HDD - 80GB Minimum - this is the same as my desktop and I couldn't go back to any less now.

    OS - Doesn't matter.

    Other features:

    Need a DVD-RW
    Need Wireless NIC

    Would like:

As large a screen as possible.
    Built-in Webcam.
Bluetooth connectivity so I can send stuff from my phone to it.
As many input devices as possible.

    Looking for lap-top advice please

I'm looking to replace my pc with a laptop, but am unfamiliar with most of the "language" used in specs, so looking for some guidance. Want to use laptop for word and internet mainly. Don't currently download music or store photos, but may in future, so capacity to do that would be helpful. WOuld also like DVD rewriter. Looking to spend roughly £300-£450. Any guidance would be much appreciated! Thanks
    Waddle you do eh?

  • Recently purchased an Inspiron 1501 for £449 including VAT & shipping! It came with windows vista home premium (including microsoft works 8) and has a dual core 64bit AMD processor, 1 GB of DDR2 RAM, 160GB hard drive, a 256MB (dedicated NOT shared) PCI express graphics card, 15" screen , DVD +/- rewriter & a collect or return warrenty!

It's one of the best I've seen for under £500, what do you think?

Do most laptops ise the same type of speakers?

I'm after one and all I want it for it to use for the Internet and watch DVD's.

As I don't need a big hard drive could I get one with better speakers anywhere instead?

    Thanks
  • Most manufacturers don't specify the specification of the speakers-they just say that there is two of them! However I've managed to find one with an uprated sound system but it is very, very pricey! It's on meshcomputers.com and is the MESH GX700 that comes with built in Subwoofer, 4XSpeakers, MIC, SP/DIF Digital, 4.1-Channel surround sound Dolby® but unfortunately it is £999! I think you would be better just buying external speakers for the laptop I mentioned above & plug them in when you need saving yourself £500!
