    What about the PC World deal - Acer 5735Z-423G for £349 - any good?

    I'm looking for a decent laptop so I can get online at home. Small flat so no room for PC. Mostly for internet use, photos and watching the odd DVD.

    whats wrong with dell? ive had 2 dell laptops but maybe ive been lucky? they do offer excelltn after sale service with their warranty nothing like what ive heard about tech guys!

    Just be aware that, as well as most of their stock, is cheap due to minor (supposedly cosmetic) damage.

    That is a netbook (ie a shrunk down lower powered laptop designed mainly for internet browsing and portability). If you are looking specifically for a laptop then that is not the right choice. But then you didn't say what you wish to use it for.

    I just presumed that it was a laptop! TBH, I don't even know the difference - my knowledge of computer hardware is not so great, sadly.

    i am looking for a laptop (or notebook?!) that can:

    boot up relatively fast, and works relatively fast on the internet and to load up programs -not looking for the speed of lightening just that it doesnt take 5 mins to boot up like my stupid Vista-addled computer does.
    That can work without Vista - I hate it!!

    Will be using it for my PGCE starting in September

    That can play films - is everything in HD now?

    A relatively good sized screen

    -what else would one do with a laptop? - mind gone blank!
