Hi Everyone
I would like to look into buying my two eldest laptops now as they are getting to an age (8 & 10) where they are taking up time on my wife and I's computers! They will also benefit from the ability to look up homework stuff, write reports, etc.
I would like the laptop to last at least 2 years, and be able to run Vista adaquately as it appears XP laptops are in short supply.
Therefore I suspect my specification is approx:
1Gb minimum
80Gb HDD
ATI/NVidea GFX
Vista Home
Edit: Oh yes, I suspect reliability is probably top of my list as I don't want to have to fix them myself more frequently than once a year!
It will run basic office apps (I suspect I will d/l openoffice for them) and internet explorer, along with Java based games. My sons like's his RPG games so something that could comfortably run some recent(ish) RPG games.
I was hoping for a budget of around £300 each but the run Vista well I suspect my cost will be more. Bear in mind I will require 2 of them!
Thanks in advance
Stu

I brought the HP laptop for £329 yesterday from Tescos and am so far pleased with it. It seems a reasonable deal...Blagged: free samples of handwash from Molton Brown; booklet of walks from Brecon Carreg;
Free Diabetes monitor, free bee-friendly seeds, a MINI coin and a splash-proof book from Radox.:T0 -
Anybody thought about Apple, I know they might be slightly more expensive in the first place to buy, but, IMHO you get:
1. Stability- they don't crash
2. Virus protection
3. Included software- usually enough installed from new for most home requirements
4. They just work!0 -
help, only got intermittent internet access at moment,, so quickly putting this thread up... ok problem i got is, 10 yr old desk top is unstable, crashes has virus etc... basicially has had its day.

You don't need to install the awful AOL software to use your AOL internet connection.loopy_lass wrote: »I have an ergo laptop paid £1200 for it, but isnt connected to internet. so question is, do i put the dreaded aol (locked into it for year) and use that,0 -
