First direct online banking

Hi everyone,

I have Cash Isa with First Direct at fixed rate (opened April this year).

I don't have any other account with First Direct.

Today I tried to transfer money into my bank account via internet banking, but when I try that it says "you cannot set up destination on this type of account. Please choose 1st Account". As I say, I don't have any other account with First Direct - does this mean that I cannot transfer anything during the year?

    Thanks.
I am just not sure what the passwords are as I only ever put money in, never needed to speak to them about anything but they insisted when it was opened that you have to set up telephone service security questions which cannot be the same as what you use in internet service...

I was hoping someone here might have the same account and just advice whether they ever tried to transfer any money out online.

When I go to the "payments & transfers" bit it says
Pay an existing bill, someone I've paid before or transfer money between my
    first direct accounts

    OR
Pay a new bill or someone for the first time

    Which one are you clicking?

You need to click the SECOND one and then you can enter the account details.
I reckon you are clicking the wrong option.
"Someone I've paid before" means someone you've paid before from THIS first direct web site.

    Hope that helps

    Hi Lilysoo,
Thank you for your reply. I am clicking the one "pay someone for the first time" as I have never transfered any money.

Does it let you do that? It lets me go second screen, but then a window pops up saying that you cannot set up destination details on this type of account and you need to choose 1st Account in option "pay from" - which I don't have as I don't have 1st Account.

    Yes you are right.
I have 1st, savings and mortgage and it only works from the 1st account.
I would call them and see how you are meant to get money out (it implies you can on the e-isa page).

Yep, so now I really do have to call them. Maybe that is why they insist that you have to set up phone banking. What is the point of having internet banking then? So you can look at it???

Well, I will have to start thinking of what password could I have picked.. Oh dear

I'm sure they have a procedure for people that have forgotten passwords.
You will just need to give them extra security info so that they are sure it's you.

    Just an update..
Spoken to them and you have to do it over the phone. For some reason they internet banking they offer with this account is just for "watching" your money. You cannot actually do anything with them from there.

Actually you could have sent them a secure message available from the "contact us" option when logged in.
Has worked for me when I had a similar situation.

Yes, I got reply there as well, but it took them while to answer it (well, over 24 hrs so I called in the meantime).
Can you also give them instruction to transfer money this way?
