I don't think they can get your new address through you redirecting mail. However I wouldn't suggest this as a course of action. It would be better to get in touch with one of the free debt counseling services and work out how to deal with your creditors properly. Also they could continue to negotiate with your creditors without them knowing your new details.

If you redirect your post then it just gets sent on to you so no creditors should be able to get your address that way.

The only way they would find your address is if they were linked to anyone you did tell e.g. if you tell your bank your new address and also had their in-house DCA chasing you for a loan then they would also know it.

Could you try using the Royal Mails forwarding service? Then this would let you get things sorted before you told them of your new address.

    You have a choice.

Redirect your mail and you get it.

Leave it as it is and your new tennants get it.

Its up to you to choose - I cant see any other way to be honest.

Unfortunately, I've read that it's quite easy for companies to get hold of a forwarding address from RM, so I wouldn't try this route.

That's typical why don't large companies every respect our data, don't get my started on the DVLA selling details to anyone who wants them!

Little warning, I received a letter from a DCA addressed to the Current Occupier asking for forwarding details for a previous tenant and debtor and "threatening" that they "may" hold me liable if I didn't say where this person now was.

They may well try this route to find you if the new tenant sends back mail as unknown at this address and is worried that they may become implicated. Plus of course the new tenant then becomes aware of your debt issues - not sure if that's a concern or not.

Kiss - whilst of course you know they have no such powers you're right - other people may not know...

OP - contact the creditors, post your SOA on here and let everyone help you - it may be that you need to start a DMP if you're struggling. Ignoring them and moving address without notifying them leaves a specific mark on your credit file... and it's not one that will stand you in good stead in the future!

Instead of hiding then start looking at how you can afford to repay these debts, maybe contact one of the links in my signature, and you are more likely to get favourable responses from creditors than if you try to ignore them or hide from them. More to the point... they could start CCJ proceedings against you a lot sooner if you try to hide...

Oh yes - and if they send out doorstep collection officers (who we all know have no powers at all!) they will be hassling the new tenants - who if they know where you have gone will probably happily hand over your new details... I know I would :)

Just on the re-directing mail topic. I filled in the form for this last year and there is definitely a disclaimer on there saying that Royal Mail will provide your new address details to companies who need it, i.e your creditors.
