Can they keep calling me????

Firstly I'm not sure if I have posted this in the right section, so sorry incase It isn't.
I have a debt collection agency calling me time & time again. I asked them when I first spoke to them if all contact could be via registered mail & every time I speak to them I ask again. I am suffering with depression & anxiety & it makes me feel uncomfortable. I wrote to them and included my current list of debters & monies owed & offered a manageable amount. They basically said my offer was insulting & we agreed on a higher amount & a payment per month.
They call what seems like every other day & I fail to see what they can achieve by calling e. Apart from making me feel terrible. They want me to send them post dated cheques, which I said I wouldn't do because I lost some control then. If I dont have the funds in the bank, I will be charged £35, so post within the 1st 7 days of the month.
So, I would like to know if they can keep calling me??? I have not refused to deal with them or pay, & have explained my illness, I just dont want the calls!!!
Many Thanks, a stressed out Rich

you need to put it in writing(via recorded) to them that you want all contact via mail only0 -
I sent a letter last week, again explaining my situation & request for contact via mail. Hasn't seemed to work as they have called this morning. It just feels personal now. It's the same guy every time. Thanks for the replies......0

They are within their rights to contact you and unfortunately with any collector they will use any means.
You need to quote the Harassment Act 1997 (i think) if their approach is becoming too much and then go to the Credit Services Association to make a formal complaint.
Otherwise I would possible speak to a debt advice company to see if they can take the weight from you and provide some assistance and get you back to health.0 -
Rich, next time they phone just tell them you have an agreement and you wont discuss it over the phone then put the phone down, try to be assertive and dont get into conversation, they will get fed up phoning.
If you cant cope with speaking to them then dont just put the phone straight down.
Try not to let it stress you, depression and anxiety is terrible, its difficult to look after/keep track of finances when you suffer with this but you have sorted it with this company and you dont need this harrassment.0 -
Given your depression and anxiety I would suggest a trip to your local Citizens Advice Bureau"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

I will keep track now of the amount of calls & say just that to them from now on & also contact the regulatory body as suggested to.
I can only agree about the anxiety & depression. I never thought I would be the type of person who'd suffer from it & if I'm very honest thought it was a bit of an excuse. Well, now I'm a little older (32) I can say i was very wrong & it can happen to anyone & is a frustrating upsetting time. But, there is always a way through!
Oh, the Company that is contacting me is Newman Debt collection Services incase anyone has also had issues.
Thanks for the replies & comments, Ritchie0 -
As it is always the same person harrassing you, if you are feeling strong enough to carry it off, just answer the phone, say you just need to turn the kettle off and you'll be straight back. Put the handset down by the side and leave it for 15 minutes. After the first time, they may try and get you to stay on line. Just say you'll be right back, put the phone down and carry on as before.ritchieboy wrote: »I will keep track now of the amount of calls & say just that to them from now on & also contact the regulatory body as suggested to.
