NSandI Direct ISA

Options
Hi.

I applied for a National Savings and Investments Direct ISA on the 4th of May but I still haven't heard anything from them.
They didn't even take the £1000 deposit. Does anyone know if this is normal?

Thanks.

I applied for mine on the 8th May by cheque and I received the paperwork back yesterday. Give them a ring.

    EDIT: The number is 0845 964 5000

I applied for mine yesterday and they took the money straight away (direct debit.

I think people need to apply ASAP, as I suspect it won't be available for much longer.

    Hi Cati
I applied online on the 7th of May, they havent taken any money or sent me any details via post. I have queried it today giving the reference number they issued , I have just had an e mail back saying they have no records of such an application. Perhaps their online service has a glitch !

If you elect to pay by debit card then they should virtually immediately put a hold on the money i.e. it will show on your current account as unavailable for withdrawls

The same thing happened to me. I just got a reply from them and they said that there is no record of the application. Very strange.
I have decided to apply else where.

    Thanks for all your replies!

Hmm, not for me when I opened mine in April. No sign of the transaction for 5 days as I recall even to the available balance. However, the screen at the end of the online application does say that interest will accrue on the amount transferred from the date of the application, and my certificate does indeed have the application date on it.

Took my cash next day and all forms through really quickly. No problems here.

OH and I applied at same time and same timescale for both of us.

Disappointing that the online service is not available though...
"We are currently experiencing a technical problem with the online service for Direct ISA, which means you are unable to view your account details online at the moment.
We apologise for the inconvenience and are doing our utmost to resume the service as soon as possible."

I applied online too. I didn't hear anything for a couple of weeks. Not even an email, so I gave them a call instead and they opened my account over the phone there and then and took the money straight away too - they were unable to locate my online reference and said that there must be a problem with the online processing. Give them a call! They are quite efficient over the phone

So the moral of the story is, if you apply online and you don't get an confirming email (usually within a few minutes), then there's problem !

Got the letter today, saying all I need to do is sign and return..... So it took 6 days from application
