Night time nappies for 2 year old boy

Hi,

My little boy wakes up soaking every morning and I have tried lots of different nappies but none seem to make any difference.

I therefore have to change his entire bed everyday (even pillow, duvet etc as he will sit on them reading his books when he wakes), not very money saving.

I have tried Pampers & Huggies, tried a larger no 6 nappy, even tried putting 2 on one night in desperation but no difference at all.

He drinks a bottle of milk before bed, normally around 200mls and I recently dropped this to 150ml but not a jot of difference. I am reluctant to drop it anymore and would rather get a good nappy solution.

He goes to bed at around 18:30 at night and awakes at 07:00. I have on occassion woken him before I have gone to bed to change him but not ideal.

Any ideas?

  • My son's 2 as well, and also has his milk before bedtime (200ml).

He has his bedtime nappy on from about 7 till 7 generally and I use the Nature nappies - they seem to have very good absorbancy compared to the others I've tried.

My DS2 is 2 and 2 months, we put a nappy on him and then a pull up nappy on top that usually holds it. I also have washable pull ups that are really thick and have a good absorbency of needed. He has a mattress protector on his bed too to help.

My mum had this problem with my brother 20 odd years ago when he was little.

Could you try putting some of the fleece nappy boosters that you use in washable nappies into the disposable, and one of the nappy outer covers on top of it? You can get both pretty cheaply from ebay or I think boots, mothercare etc would sell them too.

I have exactly the same problem. my lad won't sleep through the night unless he has his milk - he has a whole pint(!) - but I've tried reducing and even at just a couple of ounces less he always wakes up. I found a solution which worked for a while, I moved his supper time back from 6 to 5 so he got a full 2 hours after finishing his milk but as his bladder control has improved so the wet nights are back. What I've done now is to spend out on extra sheets and fleeces (because they wash more easily than duvets) rather than expensive nappies so I don't have to put them through the wash so often. They'll wear out being washed so frequently anyway so I'll have to buy more at some point. The biggest problem I have is that if he wakes up he sneaks into my bed and then wets that - kingsize everythings to wash Aaaaaaaaargh!

I have to say that this is what we still do with our 3 (nearly 4) year old daughter to prevent any accidents through the night. We to go to bed at around 11:30pm and she tends to stay half asleep whilst we put her on the loo :rotfl:. It was the only way we could find to stop the accidents without resorting back to nappies and we have been doing this since she was about 21/2. You may not be at potty training stage but just thought I'd add my two pennies worth lol!

can you quickly change his nappy just before you go to bed without waking him - don't worry about wiping him just whip the old one off and put on a new one. I used to do this with my DD1 as she hated being wet (it was never that full but she hated it)

    Thanks for all your replies.

I have tried a nappy with a pull up over the top tonight so will see how that works and report back.

I looked for Nature nappies in Sainsburys tonight but couldn't find them, any ideas where I could get them from?

Great tip about using fleece throws rather than the duvet, I am going to try that too as have a few of them. He isn't really using his duvet properly at the moment but I am trying to teach him to before the cold really sets in, a blanket would do the job as well.

I will look for the booster nappies in Boots next.

A vote here for the number 6 size in Boots. They're the boots own brand in a green packet and think they're called superdry. My DD is a big 2 and a half and i've had her in these for ages. No leaks at all, ever. Pampers, huggies etc are useless in my opinion, she was always waking up sopping wet all over when I was using them.

I am a grandma who didnt use disposables until last child. so i had old terry nappies too - i used to put one on then a disposable. but i just had a thought - along with his normal nappy could you use one of the ones for swimming in? i wouldnt reduce intake of fluids but would give night time bottle a little earlier. also - does he wake up if you change him when you went to bed? my DS1 wouldnt wake if changed (he wouldnt wake if armageddon happened tbh). just a few thoughts hun - i know what its like to have change sheets etc constantly as two of mine had whooping cough at same time and - honestly changing a bed and a cot every morning for about two months nearly killed me!
