orange maps/nokia 5800

Have just got a new contract with Orange, and wanted Orange maps, having seen other 5800 users talking about it on various blogs. Orange says the phone is nor incompatible? Any ideas, or would we consider Nokia maps OK?
All we want is a SatNav equivalent, with walking as well as driving routes, and maybe City maps.
What about google on the phone....better or worse?
Thanks

Most mapping software/sat nav only covers roads so walking's a bit of an issue. My lads a mountain leader and has to use Memory map on a windows pda for his stuff (as a fall back), as MM won't run on anything else.0

My orange contract on the 5800 included orange maps, after not receiving the software i rang up and was told it was not compatible with the phone.
Then i was told orange maps wasn't much good, and i should just use the nokia maps, or alternative software. Good of them to sell their own product eh.
Generally i use Google Maps application, but that does not have a copy of maps on your phone so you need a internet connection on the phone, unlike nokia maps which needs only a gps signal.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Thanks Dark convict, understand now. So I can use the Nokia map w/o having to rely on being online.

I installed Nokia maps at the weekend and it is much better than Orange Maps.
I'd recommend trying Nokia Maps first, and yes it does work with just gps, no need to go online.0 -
Install Nokia maps on your phone. The download Nokia Maploader and connect your phone to your computer and download the maps you want onto your phone.0

Yeah, just use nokia maps. No voice navigation thou.
If you want proper navigation i advise you buy some satnav software that works on the 5800.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
