Is it true that if you are awarded DLA then IS and HB will increase?

My brother has just been awarde Low rate DLA and is receiving IS and HB. One of his counsellors has told him that his IS and HB should increase now that he is in receipt of DLA? Is this correct? And if so, do I need to inform the DWP or anything? (As you can tell, I am trying to sort his finances and am not very good at…

Hi,

As onw above points out by living in a flat too big (and over the LHA rate for what he is entitled) he has to find the 'extra' rent out of his own income. He would really need to look for somewhere smaller/cheaper within the LHA limit (or only just over it). That way he could keep more of his income and be better off.
