Actually cardew, what do you use for heating?, I would imagine you have the most efficient heating system!

    Far from it!

    Gas CH - oldish boilers.

I woudlnt worry about it albyota.

I rent my flat and installed Air to air heat pumps purely on the fact were on a coin meter and have no control over the central heating. We were spedning a fortune on electric fan heaters in winter.

The landlord said it was fine and if we move out I will prob sell the system to the landlord and he will benefit as will be able to rent the flat with air con as a luxury flat.

    Why water filled?

You can buy plug in oil filled radiators for £30 or so and these work perfectly well.

It is impossible to say how much any electrical heater costs to run as there are so many factors to consider. Size, insulation, temp required etc.

One thing is certain, all forms of plug in electrical heating are very expensive to run.

If you are on Economy 7 you will need to change to a normal tariff if you use plug in heaters.

I can't think of any reason why a bungalow would be unsuitable for ASHP - I suggest you get a second opinion.

Thanks, Cardew. I just spotted the plug-in water-filled ones on the net and wondered if anyone had used them. I really don't like the idea of water pipes running round the house and thought that plug-in ones would be simpler to install.
At the moment I don't use the heating much but I'm going to retire at Christmas and wanted to get something more efficient in place before then.
