So to double confirm this, all accounts from Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank accounts will get the MASTERCARD debit card and NOT Maestro (for basic accounts)????

    Yes mate - spot on.

From what this thread is saying, MAESTRO cards are reserved for basic accounts!

Well they are talking rubbish cos all debit cards issued will be the new MC debit cards.

Anyone know what is the criteria to get the bank accounts? Paticularly signuature account for £10 a month.

you need to live near a branch mate (i.e. to open you need to go in branch)! I'd not bother, they are dire in terms of banks and I banked with them for years...... That said, the card does look nice but then again anything beats their ugly blue maestro debit card of old!

Cheers NID. There's a branch (Yorkshire Bank) not too far from where i live. Might consider opening a bank account for bills account. Do they have a criteria or are the accounts relatively easy to open? Is internet banking any good?

Easy as pie mate - basically you usually apply for a bank account and if declined they offer you the readycash thing...... However, if you have a copy of your credit report (Experian) take it with you as they can override if you can prove it there and then :D If accepted for a full account then apply for the gold card at the same time - good chance of getting it. I did, got £200 o/d and a gold card with £2800 or something which back in 2001 was ok I guess.....

Didn't maestro used to be a combination of your sort code and account number or was that just HSBC? My maestro card shows the usual 6759 then sort code and account number, i.e. 6759 404040 12345678

Yeah they used to incorporate the acct no and sort card them too.

I know natwest used to back in the day along with HSBC im not sure about other banks.

NatWest Streamline updated their BIN list a year ago for Mastercard Debit, and explained to it's customers what it was and what it looks like.
