Oh, so a simple download will fix it? I'm in a similar situation with a cheapo set top box that is used rarely and missed the update. I'm sure that the least hassle method is to make sure that the OAD update for the TV gets broadcast then, and make sure you get it this time. Keep your eye out for the dowload schedule here. Only goes a week in advance but still useful:

Upgrade to a PVR for £120. You can then watch what you want when you want, skip adverts, pause or rewind TV. You can record up to two channels whilst watching something you have previously recorded, it has two digital tuners.
This is the cheapest decent one, the manufacturers guarantee is two years.

I cannot imagine ever going back to being without one, they are that good.

You're missing the point. And in fact I do already have a PVR (with working Freeview tuner) and a DVD-R (with working Freeview tuner).

The point is I bought this particluar TV mainly because of the integration. I paid way over the odds for it (partly because it was a Sony, and partly because integrated sets were very expensive back then). My wife doesn't get on with multiple remote controls and needing to press the AV button five times to select the appropriate input device. She wants a TV with a remote where you press ON followed by 2 if you want to watch BBC2. Not 'Reach for TV Remote', ON, AV, AV, AV, AV, AV, 'Reach for PVR Remote', 2. We paid a lot of money to Sony, because this was important to us. Sony implied (by selling a DTV in the UK that claimed to receive DTV transmissions) that the TV was compliant with the DTT spec and would remain compliant. It didn't.

Reading various forums, it appears that Panasonic are standing by their customers, sending out (free) CAMs and DVDs by post. Sony are doing diddly squat!

I'm not sure where the idea that this is primarily a problem with Sony sets came from. It will affect sets from many manufacturers (including my Toshiba):

(I'm not sure if that's a full up to date list)

Pretty certain I have the same sony model TV

when I retuned mine, I had to retune at least 8 times
before I got all the "usual" channels in the correct order

    by that I mean
    No.1 = BBC1, No.2 = BBC2 etc

on my first retune I got a soft !!!!!! channel on No.1
    next I would get ITV1 & CH4 & CH5 but no BBC1 or BBC2

hence I retuned many, many times before I finally got all my channels correctly

very frustrating, as you don't expect such problems/issues with Sony products

not having much luck this time
while I have tried retuning my freeeview now in excess of 20 times over the last 24 hours
still struggling to get channels in correct order
    have had BBC1 & BBC2 but no ITV1, CH4 etc
have had either of the 2 above but with all sorts of variations

for what its worth my model is SonyKD28DX40U

one other query is it only seems to go upto 1 - 99 on the channel no's

god knows what it will be like when the next switchover happens

Which appears on the Split Nit Product list here:

I think you probably need to contact Sony.

Try unplugging the aerial, start re-tuning, then when at 50%,plug aerial back in.

at last things are looking up:beer::beer::beer::beer:

however, all was going to well, then :mad::mad::mad::mad:

can't find Sky News & Sky Sports News (BBCNews is there though CH81)

    SN & SSN usually channels 82 & 83

just done a second retune same as above first 7 channels fine, still no SKY News/Sky Sports News
