I've bought a Next dress that is actually a Matalan dress - what can I do?

As the title says I've just bought a dress on eBay that was listed as a Next dress both in the title and description. The dress has arrived today and it is actually a Matalan dress. What can I/should I do about this?

Just playing Devil's Advocate here....but did you buy the dress because you liked it or because of a label? Does it make a difference to how you feel about it, or are you bothered because you paid Next prices for a Matalan dress iyswim?

Just out of interest, could you not see the label in the pic?

Something similar happened to me recently. Unfortunately if you start a dispute you have to send the item back by trackable means at your own expense. As my item was fairly low value, it just wasn't worth it, so I had to chalk it down to experience and left a neg and low DSR's for description and communication (seller ignored my e-mails and then eventually replied that while he agreed the item was not as described, he thought it was good enough)

It might be worth contacting the seller - if it is a genuine mistake they might be willing to agree a partial refund. If not, you have to do the maths and see if it is still worth the hassle of returning the item once you have deducted the cost of the return postage which you will not get back.

No I could'nt! Typical, I usually take photos showing labels myself when I list items.

 That's the sort of comment I would expect from a man  ()

Liking the dress or not, a Matalan dress is usually lower quality, with poorer stitching, and falls apart more quickly, hence would command a much lower second hand price. Next stuff is generally pretty robust.

Sazere, I would send a polite message saying that you won a Next dress in the auction, but they've sent you a Matalan one. Perhaps include an auction link in the email incase they sell a lot of stuff and got confused.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I think Pinkshoes has the right idea, always give the seller a way out by suggesting it might somehow be a mistake. That means a seller can save face, explain it was a silly error and offer a refund and all will still be happy.

Did they advertise it as Next in the actually title header or in the description part, where it says size, colour, brand ect.. If its the description bit it is easy enough to list an item then click 'sell similar' to list another item and forget to change a bit of it.. cos it stores all the prev info.

Some people do the same with size, where they put say a size 12 in the main title but then 14 in the desc section, its easily done. Although people really should pay more attention to what they are doing or check it..

Try asking first for a partial refund as the cost is more than you are willing to pay for Matalan goods if they refuse do it as item not as desc dispute I say.

Maybe I have more male hormones floating about my bod than I thought then.

I was trying to clarify what the OP was bothered about most as her first post didn't make that clear. At least not to me.

I tend to buy what looks nice regardless of where it came from but I know some will have preferences, hence my question.
