Moving Gas Meter outside..

  • The reason you are charged so much for a reasonably short move is down to standardised pricing. Potentially a good price for someone who wants their meter moved a lot but expensive for someone who wants it moved a short distance.

The price you pay is the average cost of all the alterations completed over a specific timeframe and to a similar criteria.

Earlier threads mention a letter to replace an aging meter ??? Your meter must still be on a list of meters due to be replaced (Policy exchange - free). I agree with Curryeater - It mayt be worth inquiring with British Gas (who will contract National Grid) as to your meter status, if it is scheduled for replacement the engineers may do a back to back meter exchange if no or very little extra pipe is needed which is usually the case. Please be aware this is a long shot and the prices for this type of work will only go up next year.

The gas supplier will contact their Meter Asset Managment company who ever that may be and it is not always National Grid - it could be our Onstream man or another company. ..........oh so very confusing

    Hi everyone!
We've just got a quote from northern gas to move the meter on to our extension wall, will need approx 8m of new pipe to connect back up. My partner is a builder so told them he will do all the digging and refilling. They quoted £3551.92!!!!!
When we rang them they said it was a reasonable price!!
    OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!!
