Skype on K800i

I have got a Sony Ericsson K800i handset and was thinking using it with a 3 PAYG simcard - mainly to get Skype and Windows Live messenger free on it. However I now realise that skype is not a supported handset.

I did some googling and found that earlier there was a version of an applicaiton called iskoot which allowed you to install skype on this handset. But sadly it is no longer available for this version of the phone.

Is there any other way of getting Skype to work on this handset? Any suggestions gratefully received.

You can get skype lite - the k800i is listed in that link.

When I go to my3, and try to download skype it gives me a message saying this phone is not supported. However I can still get Windows Live messenger. What could I be doing wrong? Any ideas.

Because the one you are trying to download is probably some version which is not Skype Lite.

I do not use Skype so not an expert.

The link I posted above has a list of compatible handsets - to get skype lite you need to enter your mobile number on that site to get it sent to your via a text message I think (for which you will no doubt get charged).

PS - I cannot guarantee it will work but from reading that page - it seems like an option worth trying (actually what I would do if I wanted skype). If you do manage to install Skype Lite, make sure to check with Three that there are no data charges.
