Are you sure they're not ignoring shares that do badly? Or maybe they're a boiler room selling them on at a premium.

The idea is that you buy a number and if only one does well then you could be in profit. Problem is including that one in your portfolio - if you don't you could lose most of the initial investment.

    Oh no! Deja vu!
  • VOG has a spread of 3% and a volume in the millions so its not really a normal penny stock

most penny shares worth investing into are in the oil sector imo. VOG, AST, MTA, there are others with good potential too. Don't listen to people who say it's too risky, you will never make any serious money in the stock market if you do, just spend a good time researching each company before investing and you should do fine.

Spot on, its very easy to make 100% in days not only weeks with aim companies, especially exploration companies where once they discover somethin in the ground the sp will rise overnight. I had some in MTA which increased 20-30% in one morning not too long ago!

Just do you research on the companies potential, board experience etc, not fundamentals.

Penny shares can be fun to deal with but frankly you may as well be betting on black/red in roulette. Its complete luck unless you know something everybody else doesn't (but then its insider trading anyway). Whatever you do, don't risk anymore than you'd be happy losing.

I would strongly advise not getting a broker to invest the money for you - you could consider your money lost if you do. Just have a search around in magazines or buy Investors Chronicle for some share tips.

I was bought some dragon oil shares by my mother some years ago (£10 worth). How do you check the current value? Dragon Oil shares are currently qouted at about 4 euros but I,m assuming that these are not the original penny shares?

I too bought some Dragon Oil shares around the late 90's, A guy down the pub told me about them...i used to keep an eye on them on Channel 4's teletext penny share pages......never saw them move much from 2 - 5p. If it's the same company now they are trading at 393.50, unless I'm reading it wrong ;-). Now the only problem is i didn't buy them myself.....at the time i had no idea how to buy shares, so my old boss where i worked bought them, we both put in £50 each and he purchased them through his bank i think.

Does anyone know if this is the same Dragon Oil? If so by my calculations we are sitting on around £1.2 million.

Do i need to track down my old boss? ;-)

OOOpppppss, got my maths wrong, it's actually around £12,000.
  • May as well do 30x£10 on random longshots on the horses
You cant research these tiddlers, tiny drug and oil cos are leeching money at this stage, its just pot luck which one strikes 'gold'
Several AIM shares have recently gone bust or delisted many are down over 50% this week alone!
  • Quite possible Dragon Oil consolidated and or diluted over that period which would give a different amount
