Afternoon ladies, :hello: I am posting to ask if you have tried any of Gok Wan's shapewear range, and what you thought?
Yes, I posted earlier in this thread about it, see below. It was a waste of money. Looks good in the catalogue, but in reality it did not fit well and made my boobs look flat and droopy.
And I lost my Quidco cashback too (due to the DGM administrtion fiasco), so it was an expensive purchase for something useless.A little bit of feedback re this.
I'm a size 18/20 and recently bought both the Curve Controller from this season, and a Sassy Slip from last year in the end of season sale, for wearing under close fitting evening dresses.
The first irritation was that they both fasten up the back with about 15 hooks & eyes! This is not mentioned in the catalogue, so not apparent until you get the garment home. Don't even think about getting either of these if you live alone and are not either double jointed or on extremely friendly terms with either your neighbour or the post/ milkman. It also makes for a rather bulky back seam which is neither flattering under close fitting clothes, nor discreet - everyone will assume you are wearing a basque or corset. It rather defeats the aim of the game, I thought.
They are quite a struggle to get on - the slip was more difficult than the curve controller, in my opinion.
I found them both fairly effective at smoothing out the tummy, back & midriff bulges, but they were both extremely lacking in bust shape & support. A huge letdown. I could perhaps have bought a smaller back size, but this would have meant the garment was near impossible to get on & fasten.
Irritation no 2 - The Slip had a ridiculous jingly 'catbell' (yes, really) stitched in between the cups - irritating, gimmicky & cheap. I cut it off immediately.
And my final gripe, both garment and packaging (even the exterior postal pack) have his name scrawled all over them at every opportunity. What an ego he must have. And the postman will know what you've been ordering, even if you don't need his help to get it on. :eek:Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -

I like the super slicker knicker for tummy pull you in power although it can roll down at the back a little creating a lump and the hooks and eyes in the gusset are not the most comfy idea I've ever heard of! After one eyewatering moment I now only wear them with a ultra thin daily freshness pad type thing. (sorry if that's TMI)
The slicker knicker cuts me off in my fat bit and makes a really unnatractive bulge.
I've seen the new range in Simply Be and Like the look of it. I think the silly bell is gone newleaf! Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0 -

I so share your anger at that answer.
I am even larger than the majority on here and wear a 36/38 dress size, not that I wear dresses LOL! Prefer trousers.
I have many medical problems, that have made me gain a large amount of weight over the past 25 years. IBS and PCOS being the 2 main culprits, but I will not go into that on here.
Depending on where on your body the excess is, most modern clothing will not look good if close fitting, so going for a style that flows and disguises your shape and even perhaps rebalances it, is a first point to start at. If you have a measuring tape - check for hips waist and chest/bust size. Then look on line on the JD williams site who also are Aimply be, Marisota, classic 50+, Viva la Diva and many others.
They have lots of stuff that is real cheap in their sales. I got 6 pairs of trousers in my size in choc brown for £3.00 or £2.42 each pair. Were £20 at start of season. Someone rang me up to ask why I'd not been buying anything and they checked out sales items for me and I could see a picture as they would give me the item number, so I could look it up on line as well.
However, I have lost getting on for 6 stone now since Dec 2007 (31 stone at heaviest). Now around 24.8. So my trousers are starting to fall down and have to be hitched up, but I'm too mean to buy any more until more has gone. So I will tighten up by stitching a dart into them in due course.
Not knowing you medical history and any problems that have caused you to get larger, it would be difficult for anyone to tell you to eat less and exercise let alone lose some weight. So I am angry on your behalf as I too have been judged just like that.
Taking a positive attitude and fighting back helps loads. I had a 3 year old in my local coop point out with a loud shouty voice a while back that look Mummy there's one of those fat people who eat too much, at which her Mummy turns in my direction, so I shouted out at the child Oh look there's one of those loud rude stupid little kids who is just repeating verbatum what her darling Mummy says. The Mother comes up to me and asks why I'd done that to her child, so I countered, well now she knows how it feels Eh? She and you need to learn something about me, I have medical problems and I do not overeat, in fact I eat a very healthy balanced diet. Which has been proven by my consultant as my bowel and small intestine is more healthy than a new born babies. At which her face went bright red and I got an apology. Then she asked how he knew that? Well you see I was losing lots of blood and he stuck a camera up there and had a look and like you thought I should have all sorts of problems and when he did not see what he was expecting, he was most flumoxed and said it was obvious to him, that I was on a healthy regimine. She then said that she would be more careful when gossiping in future and would not judge a person by looks alone.
If this empowers anyone or helps in anyway - I am glad to post this stuff.

Why do big women always blame their size on medical causes. Obesity is rarely caused by medical conditions. Its nearly always because they are greedy or lazy but mostly both.
My advice was serious - the UK is facing an obesity epidemic. Eat healthier and exercise more. Lose weight, look better and don't be restricted in the clothes you can wear.0 -
I have problems trying to find affordable trendy plus size clothing and I found a really great site today. The site gives me ideas of what the current trends are and actually offers clothing with those trends at affordable prices. I like the fact that I can keep current with the ever changing trends in the fashion industry. I think it's important for plus size women to wear trendy clothes to accessorize their appearance. I really like how the bohemian styles are in fashion. The site I found has a couple of really cute bohemian style dresses for the summer that would look great on any plus size female. If you are a plus size 12W or larger you must check out this site. You will not regret it!

Well done on confronting that dreadful family. Like you I'm very overweight due to various health problems. And like you I eat a normal sized diet etc but still wear a size 28/30. And a hugh well done on losing that weight, when coupled with health problems is really is hard to do xx.:beer:Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.0 -
Dear all
I started this thread to help men and women to find clothes in their size. This is why it's in the 'shop but don't drop' section.
Martin has featured it on his weekly newsletter on several occasions because it helps many people to find bargains.
If you wish to discuss the current 'obesity epidemic', or feel the need to express your opinion of fat people, please start your thread in a relevant section.
Thank you
