    What a tough ot you are, I think comfort overrides savings- that the chancellor gets 40% of when we pop off- corrent we have the CH on for one hour before we get up and two hours in evening. But we se a wood stove in the lounge where it sis really cosy- the wood is free, but has to be fetched, chopped and seasoned.
    In winter we use smokeless fuel to keep stove in 24 hours. Th CH is old but the house is quite large and well insulated, cavity wall filled, 10 " in teh loft, DG , but need air for the stove.
    I reckon you need heating when the temp in the house is 60F- comfortable at 66-68
