or how about wearing a 'sheath' dress with a 'cap' on your head and a necklace made from a ('coil'ed) spring and a giant 'pill' (easy to make from cardboard) whilst carrying a pair of scissors (for the 'snip') and a sign saying 'Make love not babies'!

tape two bin bags end to end (make a hole for your head!),
    tie around body with string.
wear some old, muddy boots / wellies,
muck up face with a burnt cork,
stick some on leaves from garden etc.

    flotsem (sp?)-
same bags as above, stick on bits of cut up sponge, netting, fishy stickers etc.

most found around the house, or at £1 shop- for all your last minute costume needs!
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

ooohhhh... that's just given me another idea. Use the costume above but adapt to be a 'crone' with blackened teeth etc and a sign saying 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'! LOL

How about going as a heart ,love heart. All you would need is a giant heart shape made from cardboard.

Wear a plain white T shirt and take a bingo pen or 3, ask the guests to define love by writing it on the T shirt. It will help you get to know the other guests, and will have fun talking about the answers.

Take the T shirt into work this week and get work colleagues to start it off. Write your own message on the boob area to avoid starting any arguments at the party.hehe

    Love is...your baby's first smile

Love is...the cup of tea brought to me in bed every morning

Sheet/toga costume + nice gold hairband that goes round your forehead = Aphrodite, Greek Goddess of love.
Any kind of classic/old style dress + little bottle with 'poison' written on it = Juliet (as in Romeo and...)
White Dress + angel wings = Baz Lurhman's Juliet.
Black and red dress/outfit + card suit decorations (make a fan, do some on your face) = Queen of hearts.
Aim - BUYING A HOUSE  by November 2013!
    Saved = 100% on 03/07/12 :j
