Fancy Dress party - ideas needed desperately!

Help! I'm going to a fancy dress party next weekend and the theme is so rubbish, I'm drawing a blank on what to wear.
The theme's "Love" and I was planning on wearing an old bridesmaid dress with a veil etc, only to find on trying it on about 10 mins ago that it's *ahem* shrunk since I wore it a couple of years ago. Cue panic.
I now have the rest of a very short frantic week to come up with something as an alternative. I had thought of a hippy (summer of love), but I know 5 people who are doing that.
HELP ME!!!!!! It's not that I'm competitive or anything (I really am), but I need some help and fast:o

How about cupid without the nudity?
I will have a think - it is a rubbish theme by the way!!!0 -
Queen of Hearts? The playing card, not the person that is described as such!Gone ... or have I?0

how about a victorian harlot0

wow - its a fantastic theme when you think about it! love covers such a lot.....lets see..........oh famous lovers if you got a partner to go with- there's romeo and juliet...........antony and cleopatra.............richard and judy (or elizabeth taylor).
If no partner the you could take it further and go as baby love (dress how you like but carry a baby annebel).....or puppy love (same but carry a stuffed dog or real puppy if you got one!) .......wear a dress embellished with hearts.......wear a dress covered in choc wrappers and go as choc lover..........I am sure the posters on here will come up with some great suggestions but hope this will get you started.0 -
I was going to suggest that dmg - it's a really difficult one!
Would it be too obvious / difficult to go as a heart? If you're underweight you can go as Courtney Love ha!
Am just trying to think of love / hearts in songs / films etc.0 -

How about going as a 'loveheart sweet' (complete with cute motto of your choice) or 'young love' and wear a duvet cover to symbolise young lovers being at it like rabbits!
Or wear an 80's t-shirt with 'make love not war' on it a la Frankie goes to Hollywood era.
I agree it's not a great theme.0 -
Dress as a vole, and say you must have mis-read the invite!

What about dressing as someone who sings a famous love song, there are thousands of them sure you could find someone funny/ easy to do/ that will look good.
Courtney love is a good suggestion, back comb hair a bit (she has been blonde, brown and red so doesn't matter what colour your hair is!) bright red lippy, a nighty over trousers or a short ripped denim skirt with a mis matched shirt, and some DM's or stilletto's. Inflatable pink guitar (£1 from asda in their party section though they will be other places too) Easy peasy!
What about dressing up as a care bear, they share love with each other (ooh er!) Then you just need a top and trousers in the same colour, a pair of ears and a bit of eyeliner for some whiskery bits, and a patch for your tummy. You could make this out of felt and superglue a heart to it, as it wouldn't need hemming etc, then attach with safety pins!
What about checking free cycle for a dress in your size, so you could go with your original idea? Or go round the charity shops.0 -
Thanks for your ideas, I'm not impressed by the incredible shrinking gown and have decided to take myself in hand from tomorrow.
I'm trying to to spend laods of money at the moment, so looking for things within my existing wardrobe or v low budget.
Please keep the ideas coming, they're making me smile through the panic:)"This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0 -
You could go in whatever clothes you like with a big sign on your back saying "Love is.... never having to dress up to look ravishing"!“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”
