Switching from gas to electric?

Options
I have a couple of flats, and rather unfortunately in both it looks like the boilers are on the way out. Regular repairs, and problems are getting me a bit fed up, so I might be looking at 2 at once, gulp!

Now I'm sure its a bit of a broad question, but in general am I better off with gas or electric boilers for hot water and central heating?

One is a 2 bed flat and the other 1 bed, both average in size.

Which cheaper up front and which is cheaper to run?

-and is there any evidence on which tend to be more reliable?

Many thanks!

Do you really mean 'electric boilers'? i.e. the gas boiler supplying water to radiators and providing Hot Water to be replaced by an electric boiler doing the same job?

If so there is no question that electric is around 2 to 3 times more expensive to run.

Electric heating is far more reliable and does not need servicing, however in general you are better off with gas.
