Swiftcover do not seem to be a good company if the posts on here are anything to go by. If you need to make a claim you are in for a lot of trouble.

The whole idea of this scheme (volunteering for a massive excess to reduce the premium of a comprehensive policy to less than a TPFT policy) is that it is for very low value cars on which a claim would not be made.

So the reputation of the company is immaterial as far as handling claims is concerned (you go into this knowing you will not make a claim) - it's the money saved on the premium that's the key!

'So the reputation of the company is immaterial' <-- I don't think that is correct. If you injure someone or damage their property, you will want your insurer to meet the claim otherwise you will be personally responsible and probably sued. If I were claiming on a third-party's insurance and that insurance company messed me around, i would have no hesitation is suing the third party themselves and let them have the bother of dealing with their insurers.
Whether Comprehensive or Third party fire/theft, it is important to have a good insurer behind you otherwise your 'cheap' premium is a waste of money if in the event of a claim, the insurer does not deliver.
