Why oh why do these companies have to create phones I really want but use the wrong software (E.g Symbian) A phone with the level of capabilities this phone has would be a must have for me if it was on Android.

wallhart whats the difference between the Symbian and Android and why can one be wrong??

The X1 was touted as the iPhone beater, and I have one, It's OK, but it's the OS is showing it's age and the battery life is poor (2 days at most, mine needs a new battery after 9 months as I get half a day out of it now). Camra is slow to focus and it has lousy shutter lag making it almost unuseable unless it's in really bright light.

Email is great and the web browser is OK, but it's not as good as the hype predicted.

Long and short is you need to wait and see whats released and then decide not base it on a paper feature set that may be right but not greatly integrated together.

symbian uesd to be a very powerful phone os, not particularly user friendly but had a lot of business apps, then the new crop of os's turned up that had more apps than the traditional dumb phone so gave the user added functionality and it started to show its age.

on one side you have symbian, user unfriendly but powerful on very modest hardware. the other end of the spectrum is the iphone with no multitasking but very friendly to use.

Android was suppoed to be a bit of both, a linux kernel and open system but user friendly interface however it has tended to be put on modest hardware and the requirement to make all apps java is a serious limitation.

that then brings in nokias new (for future high end phones) maemo operating system, its basicly a port of debian linux with a pretty front end.

if you want easy to use then you will need to sacrifice some freedom, say for example i was running out of memory on my phone, with maemo i would type the following and add 512megs of extra swap space.

    # dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile1 bs=1024 count=524288
    # mkswap /swapfile1
    # swapon /swapfile1

on an iphone etc it would crash unless i was able to circumvent its protection, different people need different tools
  • lol what?

that lot went straight over my head lol
think ill just look at the camera, bluetooth and the normal things I look for when wanting a new phone lol
