noisy neighbours

Hi
Not sure if posting in right place. Not even sure if looking for advice really. We have noisy neighbours downstairs and now know the meaning of neighbours from hell. Last night their music was so loud we couldn't sit in our own livingroom we had to sit in the bedroom. This is an ongoing problem and we have spoken to them numerous times as well as contacting the owner of the property. She is worse than useless though and clearly thinks we are exaggerating (we aren't).
Don't know what to do next. We want to sell flat but can't because will be in negative equity, but hoping that property market might pick up next year so we can sell then. Have had noise pollution people out a couple of times but they are useless. The noise is largely bass which apparently their machines don't record :( Also, because we want to sell next year we don't want to have a record of dispute with neighbours.......
So tired and upset by it all. Worked hard to buy this flat and loved living here until they moved in.
I can feel the old black cloak of depression descending on me. Don't know whether to go to Dr for anti-depressants before it gets worse. Feels stupid that a little bit of noise affects me so badly
thanks

I would still keep a log of whenever the music is loud and report it.
Nature wants the human race to survive. However, it does not depend on us because we are not its only invention.

You are not stupid - noise nuisance is horrible to have to live with. Not got many suggestions, to be honest. Keep a diary of the noise and keep on at the landlord. Appreciate what you are saying about have a record of neighbour dispute on record though. That could affect a future sale.

I don't agree with The_Banker though - two wrongs and all that. How can you take the moral high ground if you have stooped to their level?

it would be a good idea to go to your doctors and get it on record, he might even write a letter on your behalf to the council, you have to keep on and on at them, I had this problem also and it made me really ill its just not worth it, also make an appointment to see your local counciler if he's any good he can speak up on your behalf

Thanks. Would that work if they aren't council properties?
Problem is that the one of the tenants is the owners son. She clearly thinks he can do no wrong.
  • yes you can still complain to the council even though they arent in a council house.

The council will ask you to keep a log of the noise. Times / Dates effect it is having on you and type of noise.

The diary is usually a few pages long. MAKE SURE YOU FILL THIS IN AND SEND IT BACK

Ring the council tomorrow and ask to speak to enviromental health and they can sort out a log for you.

Can you record the noise on a mobile and show it to the tennants mum? This can also be used as proof for the council.

Do you have any neighbourhood meetings with a council spokesperson? We have one every month? Maybe you could attend armed with video and show them too

    Hope that helps

    Me x

I would just give them the same treatment back but louder.

    They must sleep sometime.

OP - Please ignore this advise, it will get you in trouble if you retalliate in this manner.

The_banker - no offence but this isnt going to help x

Nice and quiet just now so going to put my baby down for a nap and try and get some sleep myself.
Thanks everyone. Just feel dumb as I know many people are in situations a million times worse than we are. Just feel so trapped being unable to sell and being unable to do anything about noise. Would love to get council involved but think that would make it look really bad when it comes to sell.

Are there other people these noisy neighbours may be disturbing? speak with them and ask them to complain to the council too. Keep on complaining to the council, they will get sent a letter each time someone complains, if they get a few they may quieten down for a while. We were also told to phone the 101 number ifs theres shouting yobish behaviour, but not just for music. We had a problem in the summer with a flat that backed on to our house, there were other houses much nearer and i spoke with them and we all kept complaining to the council and the housing office and eventually they went quiet, now have another flat thats starting to play loud music so will have to do the same with them....it doesn't matter if its not a council flat still complain to them.

I had a niosy neighbour, and when she moved in there was loud parties every weekend, usually starting after pubs closed.
I would have to get out of bed and ask her to turn it down, which would happen but the same thing next weekend, and the next.
So I arranged to stay with a friend one wed night and sent the boys to dads, before I left I put a cd of childrens nursery rhymes on repeat at full blast. :rotfl: She did have a moan when I got home next day but I informed her that she now knew how I felt
She still has parties every week but now its at a reasonable level

thanks. Can't sleep so back online!
No, unfortunately we are the only ones affected by noise, although our upstairs neighbour can hear some of the bass, but not so much that it annoys her. And no, she refuses to complain, think she is scared of them :-(
It would be great if we were early risers and could blast music and get them out of bed, but we aren't. Baby is a late riser like me!!
Have dreams of punching their ugly faces in, but yes I know that would make things worse! Other dream is to have them punch hubbies face so we can get them arrested. Husband not so keen on that idea ;-)
