£250 Job Grant / Return To Work Credit

Hello i have a few questions on returning to work

My partner currently on incapacity benifit and we claim joint income support as well as housing benifit and council tax benifit. Claimed for over 26 consecutive weeks
We have one child aged 2

If i return to work as self employed working 30 hours per week would she still be entitled to incapacity benifit, Would we still recieve the £250 tax free job grant and the £40 non-taxable return to work credit payable for 12 months and full working tax credits, and still recieve housing/council tax benifit

I expect my income from self employment to be very low in the next few years

As far as Im aware the return to work is only payable if you have been on the benefit for 52 weeks

    Job Grant

A Job Grant is a tax-free lump sum. You may be eligible for a Job Grant if you have been claiming one of the following benefits:
    • Employment and Support Allowance
    • Incapacity Benefit
    • Income Support
    • Jobseeker's Allowance
    • Severe Disablement Allowance
You will need to have been claiming benefit continuously for more than six months and starting work of more than 16 hours per week.
You'll automatically get Job Grant if you're eligible. You just need to make sure you tell your Jobcentre Plus Office that you're starting work. You'll be paid in the same way as you were paid your benefit.

    Return to Work Credit

Return to Work Credit is a fixed tax-free payment of £40 per week for people that have, or have had, a health condition or disability. You need to have been in receipt of a relevant benefit before starting work of at least 16 hours per week.
Your expected salary or income if you are self employed, before deductions must be £15,000 or less a year. You need to claim within five weeks of starting work.

Housing benefit and council tax benefit depends on your income

  • Thanks for the reply, I did some research before posting on this forum

The £250 back to work grant is for people who have been on benifits for 26 weeks or more
    www .grantsexpert.co.uk/job-grant.html

The £40 a week Return To Work credit is for people who have been on benifit 13 weeks or more and is disregarded as income
    www .nidirect.gov.uk/index/employment/jobseekers/jobseekers-programmes/jobseekers-pathways-to-work-incapacity/pathways-financial-help.htm

WTC has to be paid, including the 30 hour element

Obviously claiming the above we will lose the income support

The question is will my partners contribution based incapacity benefit be affected
And housing benefit still be paid.

From my understanding you should be entitled to the job grant.

You are not entitled to back to work credit as it is your partner that is on IB and it is you who is going back to work. From your link and the one I posted earlier you need to answer yes to all the questions and you don't I'm afraid.

If you can answer 'Yes' to all five questions below
<LI sizset="4" sizcache="5">Have you been claiming one of the following for 13 weeks or more
    • Employment Support Allowance
    • Incapacity Benefit (including credits only)
    • Income Support (because of your incapacity)
    • Severe Disablement Allowance
    • Statutory Sick Pay for 13 weeks or more and are now claiming an Incapacity Benefit
[*]Will you be working 16 hours or more a week?
[*]Do you expect your personal annual salary before deductions (or income from trading) to be £15,000 or less a year?
[*]Do you expect your job to last more than five weeks?
[*]Are you starting work or have you started work in the past five weeks?

Your partners contribution based IB will not be affected.

Your housing benefit is likely to be less/none at all due to your increased income.

You could try entitledto.com to see the difference.
  • As stated in the first post, it's a joint claim for income support

The reason for this is i have previous years nat ins contributions missing so therefore not entitled to IB only income support, even though DWP still pay my stamp now and i still have to submit doctors certs

With all due respect you said my partner claims IB and we claim IS as a couple nowhere in your first post do you state that you are unable to work due to illness and that you submit doctor's certificates :)

Have you entered some figures into www.entitledto.com? This will give you an idea of your entitlement.

You might want to look at the way your posts come across - you do sound like you are moneygrabbing.
    Gone ... or have I?
