The Reply to an e-mail I sent to Powergen recently (West Midlands):

The current prices that you are receiving on our Energyonline package are as follows:

Electricity - The first 200 kWh per quarter are charged at 14.160 pence and all remaining kWh at 6.540 pence.

Gas - The first 1143 kWh per quarter are charged at 3.398 pence and the remainder at 2.043 pence.

This plan also receives an 11 per cent discount from every statement that is produced for you, which makes it a very competitive package for you

I had asked a couple of months ago to be switched to their cheaper on line tariff but was told I was on the best rate .

I sent an email again on Monday saying I believed I had been given the wrong info and if I wasnt switched I would be moving on. I had a reply today saying there WERE two online tariffs but the cheaper one had ended on 9TH JUNE, but as a goodwill gesture they would switch me to the cheaper discontinued rate:beer: .

I started this thread in May when my Powergen Gas & Electric tariiffs jumped up by 30%. After questioning them, they dropped the price by a large amount. I today received my latest price increases, that show , day time electric up 49 % ! to 11.81p inc vat, night time electric up 34 % inc vat and Gas up 38 % inc vat . I have emailed them today, as I did in May to ask if I am on their cheapest tariff. I enclose below a copy of my May post.

I am on economy7 Electric with dual fuel gas.

1) What rates are others on ?

2) CHECK you rises, and if they are excessive, question them !!

I am with Powergen online for Gas and Electric, both of which rates jumped by a large amount earlier this year.

I just emailed them the following, saying I am going to leave as its too expensive, although I dont really want to change as I have been happy with them. I am not sure which Powergen online tariff I am on, am I on the cheapest rate that they can offer ?

In a couple of days, I got an email back dropping my tariff for Electric from 9.03p inc vat to 6.98p , and Gas from 2.51p to 2.145p !

Plus 12 percent discount still for dual fuel.

I just sent the same email for my dad who is on Powergen online economy 7, and he has got new rates too !.

Just got a letter from Powergen today announcing rises (London area, Dual Fuel online):

Electricity Primary 15.96p/kWh (16.76p inc VAT)
Electricity Secondary 8.38p/kWh (8.80p inc VAT)

Gas Primary 3.559p/kWh (3.737p/kWh inc VAT)
Gas Secondary 2.830p/kWh (2.972p inc VAT)
