Tried to log in as usual for internet banking and the log in page is different. Contacted my bank and they say I have a virus. Did a full scan with Norton and no threats found. Rang bank back and they said to try Kapersky free virus check. I don't want to do this to find out I haven't got a virus after all and its mesed up my Norton
When my husband logs on and tries to bring up the log in page its fine for him, the page is the usual one.
Do I really have a virus or just a problem downloading the banks page.
What should I do for the best please ?
PS. my knowledge of techie stuff is nil !!!

What anti virus and firewall do you have ? and are they upto date ? and has it recently scanned the pc? what OS(operating system) you using ?

It's not really possible for anyone to say yes or no from what you say!longforgotten wrote: »Do I really have a virus or just a problem downloading the bank's page.
So let's check to see if there is anything nasty on the PC. Suggest you download and install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (blue button on left). Click on the Update tab, and then on the "Check for updates" button. When it finishes updating, click on the Scanner tab, click on the "Perform full scan" radio button, then on the Scan button. Wait for quite a long time (maybe an hour or more?), and allow it to do any corrective action it suggests. You may even have to reboot to sort stuff out. Let us know what (if anything) was found, and other suggestions may be made!0 -

How does your bank know you have a virus without seeing whats running on your computer?
You most likely ended up at a phishing site because you typed the banks URL address in wrong or the page didnt load properly.0 -
What is different about the log in page?
Are you sure the log in page that your husband is bringing up is the correct one, does it start with https (s being the important part)0 -
THanks for the replies
I have Norton Internet Security and have only just renewed for two years, oops. Have windows XP.
I usually log on to my banks home page by clicking on the drop down menu of the address bar on the internet. The bank home page looks fine I then click to go to the log in page and here's where things go wrong. It should show just two boxes to fill in using the keyboard, I then get sent off to another page to fill in info using the mouse. Now I see four boxes all to be filled in by the keyboard. My bank says if I'm seeing the page like this I must have a virus. The same page appears if I google ...
Now I get on the internet by clicking on the logo for internet explorer. If I log in via yahoo, do the google, I find the right log in page. Why the difference
My account is blocked now and I'm safe as 'they' , if there is a 'they', have not got the additional info needed to log on anyway
Its a mystery to me and I'm getting in a tizz. I feel stupid that it upsets me so.0 -
OK found out I must have a virus. I did a search on here and found a thread saying the virus took you to a log in page showing three boxes.
Well its four boxes now, swines !0 -

I have installed Malwarebytes and it did find problems, I had to reboot. Now everthing seems ok I have gone back to the bank log in page and its fine now.
I have also installed microsoft windows defender and spybot. Spybot found some problems but also fixed them.
I was going to install Ad-aware but bottled out when they wanted me to choose 'shopping' option to get it for free. I will have another look at that later.
It has taken ages to get this far but I am very pleased.
Thank you for all your help. :beer:0 -
I did ask to see the logs
But its your call...........:idea:0 -
I hope you didn't enter all your details onto this page you brought up? If so, you'll need to change them and possibly block all your bank accounts.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0
