Suprima 50 & Boilermate 2000

Ok, so forgive me, this may be a stupid question but I'm pretty clueless when it comes to boilers!

I moved into a new town house in 2006, it's got a Potterton Suprima 50 on the ground floor with a Boilermate 2000 on the top floor. I haven't had any problems with either to be honest, but I recently found out my gas/electricity bills are way higher than my neighbours, despite living on my own and not really using much of either. I've been looking into boilers (well trying to!) but to be honest, I'm pretty lost!

I'm now just looking for more information how I can reduce my gas/elec bill (as I said, I'm not using much of either, so it must be something to do with the way its been set up) Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks
x

it has got an electric immersion heater in the boilermate unit this is a gledhill made unit, http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=119015&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=&sid=cdd9ad90192964576c6d1e22a29babef

you need to check the settings of the electric elements this is probably holding off the boiler from firing.

  • I have the same setup in my house, so heres how it works and why i don,t think its so good on the bills for you living on your own.
The boilermate 2000 is a thermal store not a hotwater cylinder, so the boiler runs clicking in and out as required to keep the thermal store hot 24 hrs a day.
When you turn the hot tap on the thermal store starts a pump to pump the stored heat through a heat exchanger which heats the water flowing to the taps.
This is the issue with these if your on your own you will not use much hot water and in summer no heating but the thermal store is still heater by the boiler all the time just in case. the time clock on the unit is only for the heating so i would suggest turning the electric off to boilermate when you go out and turning it on an hour before you need hot water.
This will save you on the gas that would normally heat the thermal store all day.

Not all boilermate 2000 have immersion heaters fitted. If they do, they are there as a back up in case the boiler breaks down.
