Well the cost does not include the parts, just labour.
The contractor did mention he can get the bathroom suite etc cheaper than screwfix, same with tiles from topps tiles.
As for the acqa parts he was the one who mentioned i needed it, as i was just planning to take off the old ones and tile over it.
And there will be a couple of his guys doing the job.. once for plumbing and another for electrics so it meets regulations.

only came across the guy as he was refurbing a house not too far away so have already seen what the quality of work is like.

Unfortunately he only works in E.London, but if you want his details then just PM me.

Thanks for the tips by the way.

It's very cheap as has already been mentioned, if you're comfortable with the guy's work then book him asap. I would charge closer to £2500 for the same installation, and at that rate we always ran 3 months full booked.

I now don't install bathrooms as the stone side of my business took off we now need to concentrate on that alone.

It's too cheap, theres no such thing as waterproof plasterboard, there's moisture resistant plasterboard which is a whole world different. The shower should be built from Tile backer board i.e. Aquapanel and ideally tanked....Moisture resistant chipboard is not suitable for ceramic or porcelain type tiles, existing flooring should be reinforced with a minimum 12mm WBP plywood screwed down.

I know you are correct but I broke most of those rules 10 years ago and my bathroom is still fine.

    - I just tiled standard plasterboard. It wasn't moisture resistant, Aquapanel or anything. I did, however, use water resistant tile adhesive and grout. It's a power shower so there is plenty of spray and steam - but no problemI'm aware of.

    - I stuck floor tiles straight on to the wooden floorboards. 12mm plyboard or any thickness would have raised the floor height too much, so I didn't use any. I used 'flexible' adhesive and grout on the floor and it still looks perfect.

Sure, the odd one works, but our entire business was built around putting those right that failed, and they failed with alarming regularity.

However we would often refit rooms that were perfectly serviceable, only when you started stripping out did you often find that the entire bottom 12" the shower walls is rotten.

Much in the same way "the guy in the pub" has had is Escort van for three years, never serviced it, never put a drop of oil, never let him down yet!

You'll go through life getting anecdotes similar to yours and there is always the exception to the rule, you may only shower once a month for all we know! In which case your bathroom might last 60 times more than some who showers twice a day....plenty of variables and enough failures to warrant producing the specialist materials to construct them from.
