OS Daily Thread - Saturday 3rd October

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 3rd October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning all
MicheH, fluffybunnies and Elfen - it's great to have you all here with us and look forward to reading you!
Celyn - your muffins looked really lovely.

Feel really tired this morning but Tris is not in a good place so didn't want to disappoint him by not turning up. As it happened my friend R, in London, who is starting chemotherapy next week rang me and woke me 'cos she needed an ear, so I was obviously not meant to sleep! (She knows I am often up at this time and I would obviously prefer she rang me than sat up worrying all alone)
Os-iness today will be gardening. I have more tomatoes to harvest and we are picking up some large garden pots from a lovely lady on freecycle so that will be a nice drive out. I have a few large plastic tubs that have cracks in them so I would like to swap things over and throw those out.
Lunch is home made bread with egg mayonnaise as we have quite a few eggs in the fridge and not a lot else as we haven't done our main shop yet! Dinner will have to be freezer surprise for the same reason. Think we still have pies in there or sausages... Yes, you are right, I do need to do a freezer inventory soon!
Hope everyones weekend starts well. Warm gentle
for anyone who wants one!

Good Morning MSD & all to follow
Have been up for a while & cant believe how early I have rose on a Saturday - however OH was breathing really nosily & I couldnt get back to sleep - I have told him the breathing has got to stop :rotfl:.On the plus side I will hopefully get ahead of myself & also get to enjoy some peace n quiet before everyone else gets up.
Need to head to town this morning, I have ordered a new camera which came last night but I really need a memory card for it, I can also go to the library & pop into M&S food as I think I read on here that they have their Xmas biccys on offer - they are always good for a pressie.
House is clean & tidy so will be concentrating on washing & ironing & keeping the house tidy today.
Chicken wraps for dinner in front of SCD - bliss.
Have a great day.x0 -
Morning. Have not been on in a while Lots of late shifts and busy mornings, fishing trip to Minehead and my computer is busted and I have not yet replaced it.
But here I am... Morning Essex... I have to wonders why they don't give you larger capacity cards for cameras. They don't cost a lot more anyway...
I am up to essex next week, to clear up a few jobs, got to go to the Romford area.
Not much new here. Been dry all september. I have painted my windows and doors, so that was good. Gave our ducks away on free cycle, so it's far less messy and the chicken food lasts longer.
Went to ASDA last night. They have some wine offers worth looking out for.. You have to hunt the shelves, but there was good wines for £2 -£3 a bottle.
Spent far too much there......
Well off to PZ today... Meadery for supper.. cheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning MSD, Essex-Girl, N9eav, and all who follow.
(((Hugs))) to all who are unwell or worried; hope today is a good day for you.
MSD - you must bring such comfort to your friends; you really are 'there' for them, which must make their suffering a little easier to bear.
Well, today I shall be peeling lots of bargain onions for soup; they're very strong ones, so I shall have to peel them all under water. 2kg of onions for less than £1 - a real OS buy, I think. I'm also using a chicken carcass to make a casserole, so I shall have a busy morning.
The rest of the morning will be spent dusting the house - DH has been plastering and so on, and I haven't bothered to do it while he's been busy, so it's a bit desperate!
Will call in later - must dash, kettle is calling.
Have a great day.

I'm sorry but I haven't read back yesterdays thread so hugs to those who need/ would like them:grouphug:
Had a really really rubbish day at work yesterday. My manager is on holiday and as such we have been supervised by another team leader. This other team leader has always grated on my nerves - I don't think he is professional and he has to be asked to do things many times before he does them. Anyway yesterday, he made a really bad comment yesterday and I had to say something - basically he called another member of staff ugly whilst she was in the same room, listening - I was mortified, so I can't even imagine how she felt - well, I'm one of these people who doesn't think well before I speak and so I told him he was completly disrespectful, that he couldn't say things like that, he was her manager and as such should treat her and others with respect etc etc - I got pulled out of the room and 'told off' by him!!! !!!!!!!! He did apologise to me and to her for making the comment and then I felt I had to apologise for challenging him in front of other members of staff. I've got work again today and he's the supervisor on today - not looking forward to it at all!
Anyway - on topic - put a load in the WM and hung up some clothes and S&S the kitchen - and thats it!! Must make brekkie and get kiddies dressed as they are off to my mums whilst I'm at work.
I'm sorry its a long one and I've burdened you all with my small issue!!
Hope everyone has a nice relaxing saturday.

Morning all!
Well the first school disco went fairly well. DD wouldn't join in for a while but once she did there was no stoping her. I also told her about the death of her friend and she seems to have taken it in her stride but I'll keep an eye on her.
I think we are both getting colds again as we are both sniffly this morning-lovely.
Need to get a load in the WM-its really windy here so hopefully will dry before we go out this afternoon. Mum is collecting us and we are going to my Aunties for tea. Tea at mum's tomorrow so they'll both help with the budget!
Hoping to get some cleaning done with DD's assistance this morning-she loves dusting but will hide whilst I vacumn.
Hugs to all that need them.
Hope everyone has a peaceful day.July grocery- 24.40/220. NSD-1/3.

Morning all
yeah Curlytop very windy here - but luckily a warm wind so I too have clothes out drying with my fingers crossed that they stay on the line and don't end up in next doors garden!:rotfl:
Changed and washed bedding yest and put the wintery type quilt covers on last night (mock suede/fleecey types rather than silky/cotton types IYKWIM) and slept really cosily last night! Even OH noticed and commented on the difference.
Today we have a fair bit of running round to do this morning and then this afternoon/evening we are going across to see friends in Manchester ('tother side of the Pennines:D) for a meal and catch up with gossip, so that will be lovely. Must go get some nice wine to take with us - OH always drives when we go there so I may have a glass or two!:D
The wind is getting even stronger here - my watering can just went past my window:eek: Best go make sure there are not too many things that can move and cause damage.
((((Hugs)))) to all who need or want them. Still thinking of you Bargainbird
Have a good day all

Morning all,
Its raining here, first rain we have had for weeks, I find this time of year really difficult to get my washing dry, I cant put it on the line if its wet, and its not cold enough to put the heating on, so its on the airer, but heavy things like jeans take ages to dry.
Essex girl memory cards are a lot cheaper on ebay if you can wait a week for it
, but if you are anything like me you will want to use it NOW
Kathy, the onions sound like a bargain, we normally get a sack this time of year, much cheaper that way, we get through a lot of onions.
N9eav, nice to see you posting.
Looks like the rain is set in for the day , not sure what we will do, we would normally be out walking, we will have to get little dog out for a bit.
I have one load on the airer, one in the wm, and another to do , I also need to hoover through, and mop floors.
I have cancelled dd's cervical cancer jab on monday, once you look further into it, there are a lot of horror stories, and a lot more deaths in the USA, I am going to wait a year and see if any advances are made.
Pasta with mushrooms and garlic bread for tea, and X- Factor for us.
Have good days all xx
Hugs to Pippa, xxx0 -
Good morning,
Not a lot of OS going on in "Faulty Towers" the last couple of days, so I haven't posted. On Thursday I went and bought a new mobile phone because mine died. I have altered my contract though, so even with having to buy my own new phone, it's costing me less.
Yesterday I ordered a small chest freezer. We did have a big chest freezer, and when it died I replaced it with an upright. I prefer the upright because I can find thing and they get used more quickly, but there's no room for big things, or much in the way of leftovers from meals, so we decided that a small chest freezer would be handy.
I have done the washing and dried it. Ds is going to a party today, so I will find time to do the ironing after we come home. I also have another bag of apples from my friend to turn into somethng yummy
Thinking of Curlytop's friend - I can't imagine losing my 4 year old.
Hugs to the rest of you that need them, especially Bargainbird and her family.
Take care all of you.0 -
Morning all! :hello:
Football has been cancelled this morning due to the weather. Very disappointing for DS1 as it is the first time he's been picked for the under 9 team, but I'm quite glad I don't have to spend the morning standing in the wind and rain with DS2 and DD watching him!
This afternoon I am taking DS2 and DD to a Teddy Bear's picinic (inside!) to raise money for a local Hospice and Palliative Care Service . DH is taking DS1 to watch the local football team play.
Working my way through a mountain of washing, having to TD as there is more than I can hang in the house. At least we went shopping last night (inlaws had the kids) so that is one less thing to do today.
Saturday Night is takeaway night, I think tonight it will be pizza.
Hope you all have a good day x0
