Broadband - monthly usage allowance

I have only just learnt that we can finally have broadband in this very rural part of Yorkshire.

Freeserve/Wanadoo has been my ISP for some time now and I have been very pleased with them. However they have a 3 tier system for Broadband access according to monthly usage.

I remember that I read last year that Internet providers can not check on the usage and one might simply sign up for the cheapest deal. Is that still so? Or should I look for a new provider with no download limits?

There are several other suppliers who (IMHO) offer better value for money and better customer service than Wannadoo. Have a look around, rather than just stick with Wanadoo who offer a poorer deal than some..

I used to have dial up with Freeserve/Wanadoo but when we got broadband here about 5 months ago, I  went with Metronet  - the pay as you go 512MB  and We're online everyday although not into downloading music etc (yet) and the most my bill has been is £14.75 and that was the month I uploading approx 200 photos to be printed. (photobox offer)

So far only had one downtime which they notify you of in advance, plus give you a dialup number to use from where you can monitor the fault progess from a web site.  Saves phoning India and getting someone who know nothing about what you're asking!

Have a look at metronets web site they have a usage calculator there which can help you work out what you'll use http://www.metronet.co.uk
