    Hi,

    It's trev from taxiroute.

When you used the calculator did the mapping software choose a suitable route? The route your family members use?

Would you be willing to tell me the route? I can show the manual calculations and see what it really should be?

    Trev

The route chosen by your software looked reasonable although it is one of those trips that cabbies will vary at times to avoid traffic bottlenecks. No, I'm afraid I won't provide you with details of the route as it includes details of our address which I will not disclose to strangers on the internet.

Some people who take taxis don't necessarily always want the cheapest service available. Some people want a driver they know and can trust to be reliable, punctual, trustworthy and pleasant.

A lot of the blokes who work for our biggest local firm look like ex-convicts to put it bluntly! Plus their cars are filthy! They are more likely to advertise with you than our couple of independent chaps.

So I personally wouldn't use your service on behalf of myself or family members.

    Good luck with it though.

The true cost of a trip is not what this web site says, it’s what the taxi meter says if it’s a regulated Hackney Carriage or what you agree with the firm if it’s an un-regulated Private Hire.

Taxiroute is a commercial website designed to make a profit for its owner by charging taxi firms for advertising space, nothing wrong with this in the real world but I struggle to see how it doesn’t fall foul of the MSE site rules regarding advertising……

    ADVERTISING

This site is free from advertising. Posts on any board considered to be advertising goods, services and/or companies will be removed.

Examples of this can include anything from a specific sales post or a link to your own website in which you attempt to sell something to someone offering their holiday home to forum members. Unfortunately we cannot allow any advertising of any description no matter how honourable the intention.

The fact that MSE Jenny posted the first message suggests that the site is being backed by MSE for whatever reason that might be. It is Martin's site and he can do what he likes with it.

Just avoid the thread if you don't like it vaio. I'm not being rude suggesting that just pointing out that you may be wasting your time complaining about it.

I think some members maybe getting this site out of perspective..? The idea as far as I can see is to make the Local Authority taxi tarrifs (that the taxi companies MUST work to) more transparent to taxi users BEFORE they make their booking - and as far as I can see, this site has got to be a FIRST in that respect :T. Sure, any route variations that the driver (or I) prefer to take on the day may change the end cost (just as any delays/congestion on the day are bound to and cannot be predicted in advance).
Which taxi company I actually choose is still up to me - if I know that a local taxi company 'X' runs filty cabs and employs rubbish drivers then I won't use them anyway - but at least now I WILL now have a good idea what the cost should be. Any taxi advertising on taxiroute would suggest to me that they are knowingly signing up to a site that stands for fair fares!

Wow, ifb you must feel really really strongly about this to register just to make this post.

Not anything to do with taxiroute.co.uk are you?

Also, just to set the record straight, any taxi phone booking is not covered by the Local Authority Hackney Carriage tariffs which only apply to fares that start by the punter flagging a taxi down. Any phone booking is automatically a Private Hire and the fare is a matter for agreement between firm and punter, the LA don’t have the power to set Private Hire fares.

No, nothing to do with taxiroute but nice welcome - thanks! But I am not a great fan of taxis - can't count the times I've been ripped off, driven through red lights in knackered cabs, dodgey looking drivers....

So take a look at *who* posted the link in the first place. She clearly doesn't think it is a breach of the rules so it's safe to assume that posting the link here is officially sanctioned.

No need to thank me for the welcome, it's one of the rules, "be nice to all moneysavers" although, as i posted earlier there is another rule about advertising which doesn't seem to apply any more.

I'm glad you are nothing to do with taxiroute.co.uk

Although I do find it interesting that your home page as listed on your profile you created today is also transport related (myabnormalload.com) and the owner of that site (Ian Brooks) not only has the same initials as your username but also also lives less than 200 yards from the guy that owns taxiroute.co.uk (a £2 fare according to taxiroute.co.uk)

    All entirely coincidental I'm sure

I LOVE it when people create an alias to help their cause and then underline the link by thanking themselves! ;)

I think we're getting off topic here (and I'm STILL nothing to do with taxiroute btw.....). My posting was objective and I stand by it 100%.

Yep, it is entertaining but I don’t think this is an alias, Ian Brooks (owner of IFB’s home page myabnormalload) and Trevor Daniel (owner of taxiroute.co.uk) are different people, they just happen to live either end of the same road.

But, as IFB has said, he is nothing to do with taxiroute.co.uk , I suppose he somehow stumbled across this site and was so impressed with the taxiroute.co.uk idea he registered just so he could post in support
