Hmmm, I was slightly piqued at 'that' remark last night, particularly from someone using this site/thread to advertise their buy to let home .

But this morning I feel different, so shall just wallow in misery that £80,00 would just about buy my garage.

I went 'window shopping' yesterday to see what 80k would get me where i live, I found 2 options, a studio flat only slightly bigger than a shoe box or a one bed flat down a road so dodgy that the police wont even go down there :rotfl:

 That doesnt sound too attractive. I've been scanning the local papers & the cheapest property I found was a one bedroom, ground floor flat, leasehold for £130,000. I'm now going to check out websites to see whether £80,000 will actually buy anything with windows :D

    see you later
    xx

Edited, to say that the above property was on a retirement development, places for the under 55's start at £145,000 ... guess who will be renting for the forseeable future, hey ho, saves a packet on insurance & maintenance ;)

The only thing £80K will get you where I live is a 75% share in an apartment for the over 55s or an unconverted 1 bed basement flat!:rotfl:

I assume that an 'unconverted' basment flat is essentially a cellar / dungeon , perhaps I should rent out my 'unconverted' attic room :D

It is indeed someone's cellar. Just looked at the pictures on the internet and it is basically 2 rooms. The walls are bare brick and look damp. no proper floors and ceiling. It is cheap - £58K - and comes with planning permission. Apparently it is excellent value for money!

You should look at renting out your 'unconverted' attic

Sorry Lula, I didn't mean anything by it. :A

I've nothing against southerners, my mam is from Hampshire & I've spent more of my adult life south of Watford than north of it. Strangely I know more people from Sunderland who are living in London than Sunderland.

I could do with a lodger so all welcome! Even if it is to get away from Tesco.

They secretly bought some land years ago and have been waiting for "the right time" to apply for planning permission. The first plans were for a massive store. Surprisingly they were turned down. Harrogate council usually agree to anything if the people submitting the plans pay enough! They seem to have gone quiet again.

They've done that in Sunderland as well. they bought the Vaux Brewery buildings & demolished them & have sat on the land for 10 years with it looking a total eyesore in the hope the council will roll over.

They bought the old gas works and it is an utter eyesore now. Nobody knew they had bought it until they started submitting plans.

Hello all, just popping on to list my frugality for today. I don't have a large Tesco nearby and I do dislike what they stand for but I do go there occasionally for the points and I do like their online shopping, which I won't be using for a while as you have to spend £50 ish to use codes and I am trying to cut down to £15-20 a week.

    Today:
    • coins in piggy
    • read papers online
    • my local supermarket is being refurbished and was selling lots of food off cheaply, so I managed to get £12 worth of food for £3:D
    • free coffee and biscuits at work
    • ordered free Baileys sample from freebies board:D
    • checked quidco and pigsback
    Pay/save £20k in 2010 £5888.75/£20,000
June Mini target 0/5lbs Total 23/40
    Ebay profit 2010: March £207:) April £95:) May £130:) June £0 Total £432:j

    * a year ago I would have trampled over you to get that :rotfl:. Just shows what one week & 2 litres of the stuff can do to a girl ... why do I suspect that this would not work with Pink Elephants ... even 2 gallons would be achievable with plenty of snacks to soak it all up.

Well done on all the other frugalities :D I hope the supermarket refurbishment wont mean that you go hungry , when our local one was done last year, I felt utterly bereft ... I think this was when I started going to Tatco again, be strong sarah :rotfl:

SBC - On this occasion I shall allow your tribalist comment to pass, dont let it happen again though :naughty::D
