    Hi Lula

I'd guess the nearest Waitrose to there would probably be the one in Eldon Square, Newcastle, about 20 miles away .

20 miles away :eek:_pale_ that'll never do, where do people buy food then

I don't think I have ever been in a Waitrose:D I shall have to track the nearest one down and have a look, I think there is one about 10 miles away. I shall expect great things. :D Just noticed your location Lula, I know you hate Tatco but think of the points:D

I think it's just that particular one I've been using that irritates me so much, so will try another one next time I do my fuel & household shopping to see if it's any better. I may rant but have no intention of giving up my points :D

Waitrose used to have a very snobby reputation but have now introduced an 'essentials' range of basic products which is very reasonably priced. It's the clean, bright stores & the lovely staff that I really appreciate as well as their ethcial policies.

I really should be on a comission shouldnt I :rotfl:

Harrogate - where I live - was the first northern town to get a Waitrose. Now there loads more across the north. When Morrisons bought Safeway they sold a lot of Safeway sites to Waitrose.

We're also the only postcode area on mainland Britain without a Tesco supermarket (there are a number of Tesco Express shops). They own some land but their first 2 planning applications have been turned down. Nothing against Tesco but we already have Asda, Morrisons, Sainsburys, Waitrose and a number of Co-Ops so not sure we need another supermarket.

Haha lula i think i would starve to death if i boycotted Tatco.

Nic we are all praying for the downfall of Tatco- There are 2 big ones and 1 huge one as we are the last proper outpost before the wilderness of the higlands and islands. There's one Morrisons, one lidl and aldi and one big Co-op and about 10 small ones. it's called Tesco town!
Asda has been trying to get in for ages but they keep getting knocked back but the asda from 40miles away now delivers locally and that has given hope to many of givng up our dependency on tatco.

Sorry i could go on for ages about how horrid they are- Get you addicted to new lines then drop them, change the store layout CONSTANTLY- which drives one bonkers when you can't find the sweeties ever!!!
dull and dingy store and now my closest one has closed my usual entrance/exit for no good reason forcing me to walk an extra 50yards to the door!:mad::mad::mad:
OK rant over- i have work to do

    have a nice day all!

Well, now you know who's coming to live with you :rotfl:I have everything imaginable against Tatco, there are 2 enormous ones within 3 miles of where we live, they bought up the old Safeway site & the Co op site & I'm convinced they are relevant in the demise of Woolies too, I miss Woolies :(

For goodness sake shut me up :o.

Hope you're enjoying your week home alone Ziggles :D

    Hi Lula

One of the biggest things I noticed while doing the renovations was that at school kicking out time (its directly opposite the primary school) there were almost as many southern accents among the chatter outside as local ones so I guess word is getting around.

   .

Damn us southerners - we get everywhere :rotfl:

Hmmm, I was slightly piqued at 'that' remark last night, particularly from someone using this site/thread to advertise their buy to let home .

But this morning I feel different, so shall just wallow in misery that £80,00 would just about buy my garage.

I could do with a lodger so all welcome! Even if it is to get away from Tesco.

They secretly bought some land years ago and have been waiting for "the right time" to apply for planning permission. The first plans were for a massive store. Surprisingly they were turned down. Harrogate council usually agree to anything if the people submitting the plans pay enough! They seem to have gone quiet again.
