No ... the OP is looking to 'move' (i.e. transfer) the Halifax ISA into the existing BB ISA. Quite permissible.

Do you know whether you can open an ISA with another provider, if you have not contributed to an existing ISA in the current tax year? My OH has a Halifax ISA Saver Direct but has not paid anything into it this tax year. Rather than trying to transfer it, I wonder if we can leave it on ice and open a new ISA for the current tax year. Is this allowed?

    Hi
Thought I would update on my state of affairs with the Halifax. Thought everythiing was sorted when I received letter on the 22/5 saying ISA closed etc. Rang up A&L today who I am transferring to and was advised that there were errors in the form that was sent to them and it was returned on the 30-5. Rang up Halifax to see what was happening and of course the department shut at 5. They are hopefully going to phone me tomorrow. Have advised that is still a 2 1/2 week delay on post. I am hoping that is post from people who want to transfer and not banks or it will take them a long time to sort out the problem. Of course now I have no funds in either place so losing interest and have no idea where the cheque is.

Moral of story. Keep checking what is happening until everything is where it should be.

As long as you haven't made any contributions to the Halifax ISA this year you can open another one with any provider you choose. The savings in your current ISA do not have to be transferred to the new provider and they will still continue to accrue interest tax free.

I have had the same experience. I have sent a complaint letter to Halifax HQ to find out where my money is and asking for compensation. When I received my A&L letter, I took it, with my original letter from the Halifax, to my local branch and they just asked me why I was there!

I am making a complaint to Halifax.
I had to send in 4 forms to get my ISA transferred (2 went through the branch specifically to eliminate postal problems).

    I have complained.
They have not received my comlaint letter or my fax.
I have sent an email which has been acknowledged (so at least I know they got it).

Their correspondance appears to be absolutely appauling as they seem to lose most of it.
  • After around 7 weeks Halifax have transferred my ISA to B&B :T

Today, I received a response from the Halifax with a cheque for £25. I know that this does not seem much, but it is way more than the interest I have lost from not having an instant transfer. Unfortunately Halifax did not address any of the point that I raised in it. Oh well, at least my savings are now earning a better rate of interest (savings were transfer last week, its only taken them 9 weeks!).

If you are transferring TO A&L, they have a backlog of processing but once the account is actually set up, the interest is backdated to the day they received it. So don't worry whilst it's apparently "missing"!

I have today received £25 from Halifax.
I am quite pleased with that as I lost about £7.50 in interest.
So it's worth complaining to them.
This seem to be their "standard" response.

They lost my posted and faxed complaints, so I would recommend sending it by email as you get an automated response.
