Cancelling CPW Vodafone Contract

I've jphoned CarPhoneWareHouse a few days ago (who run my Vodafone account (didn't realize this until after I signed up!!)) and they've told me I have to write them a letter by post in order to cancel my contract!
Does anyone know of a simpler way? - I know it's not much hassle to write a letter, but going to the Post Office and paying for Recorded Delivery is (esp since I work 9-5 and'll have to waste my lunch break!).
Thanks for any suggestions

I think that legally email is considered written notice - check out DSR on a consumer website (consumerline.org in NI IIRC, but the advice should be relevant UK wide since almost all UK contracts seem to use English law).Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!0

Ask them to supply you with a copy of the terms and conditions that state you have to inform them by post to cancel your contract. They probably wont be able to , at which point it should give you leverage to be able to cancel over the phone. Providing they can identify you as the account holder, they should have no issue in this. Ask to speak to a supervisor. I have ALWAYS cancelled contracts over the phone without an issue.0

I have always cancelled my contracts over the phone with 3 and Orange.
But always have to write to cancel contracts for Vodafone when it was on SinglePoint a few years back (and it does say in their T&C to cancel in writing). Just send it by normal 1st class post and ring them a few days later to confirm.
i.e. It depends on the network provider.0 -

i.e. It depends on the network provider.
If your service provider is direct with the network they usually allow you to cancel a contract or issue a PAC immediately over the phone. So if your O2 or Vodafone connection is direct with the network then this should be the case. Similarly with Orange, T-Mobile and 3 who do not use third party service providers.
If you use a third party service provider like CPW then they usually require the request in writing. When I recently queried CPWs Ts and Cs regarding cancellations for O2 connections their customer services insisted this was the case. I contacted O2 directly and they implied that this was actually a process enforced by O2 itself.
I cannot confirm if this is the case with Vodafone CPW connections but I would assume it to be similar.
Cheers

Well I've sent them an e-mail, and hopefully they'll have the sense to print it off if they need it on paper.
Update: They accepted it via e-mail, and said this:
"I can confirm that the Disconnection Request Number you have given me is correct according to our database." which I thought was quite funny, since they'd just instructed me to call them up and get the number (if they have access to the database, why not just look it up themselves!).0
