Why not make one from silver foil, with a Smartie for a jewel, and pop it into a ring-box....
Then think about sunrise or sunset, beach, boat or restaurant, just you or lots of people around you, and lastly: how - written in stones on the beach, treasure trail of clues to find the ring, on one knee with ring-box in hand, drunk or sober, which day of your holiday - early on is probably best, then you won't be worrying about it all the time of your stay!0 -
If you are arty you could make a temp ring. An friend of mine made a temp ring out of wire (it was so pretty!)...she said yes:D It was a really personal touch.Back on the MFW Wagon!

When H2B proposed to me we didn't have the ring. We went shopping for it right away (same day) and it was *great*. It's soooo cool going into jewellers and saying "We just got engaged!" Everyone's excited for you and it really is a lovely thing to do together.
Our proposal kind of happened out of the blue though, while we were chatting lol and got onto the subject of marriage for the umpteenth time. If you do the big 'event' proposal it might seem a little odd to have nothing. I'm not sure about a temp ring, as she'll probably assume it's the real one and have a slight moment of panic.
If you're going to have something, have something obviously not final like the sweet/foil idea... 0 -
Thanks again for all you great ideas:T
It's great to hear all your romantic tales, they have give me lots of things to think of and I just hope I can do something to match up to what she is worth :j0 -
My OH didn't have a ring, because it was quite spur of the moment. I then chose my ring the next day while he was at work and I met him at lunchtime to get it. Not terribly romantic I know but didn't stop me being incredibly happy and excited.
A friend of mine proposed, in the middle of the city centre in front of a jewellery shop while they were out shopping. One way of solving the problem and she found it romantic.
I vote for the jelly ring.....
or do you wear a ring? If you do maybe you could take it off your finger and put it on hers and tell her she can borrow it until she has chosen her own.0 -
You could take her shopping, see if there are any nice jewellers to check out and while she is drooling over the diamonds, propose!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0

I chose my ring before he proposed because I am extremely fussy and we both wanted me to love my ring for itself, not just because he chose it with love. It is the most beautiful ring I have ever seen and everyone comments when they see it. Even men!

If she has no clue this is coming, and you want to keep it that way, if you have time before you go, you could get a ring box, and either get a jeweller to engrave on a little silver 'token' (ideally heart-shaped) the simple letters 'iou', or just write a little note yourself to pop in the box. That way, if she is sentimental, she can treasure that little token. I haven't actually seen such a thing (hm, gap in the market - no one steal my idea!) but I am sure a good jeweller could make something up. The sweet/jelly ring will go off in a few years!
If you have any idea what SHAPE diamond she would like, you could always just buy the diamond and present that to her, then together you can go and choose/design the setting.
Good luck (not, I'm sure, that you need it!).
