Hi there, I am looking for some advice.
My girlfriend and I are going to Mexico (Playa del Carmen) in a couple of weeks. I was planning on proposing on whilst over there and would like some help.
I was thinking on proposing and letting my girlfriend choose her own ring, I know this isn't the most romantic gesture but I would like her to have something that she would love (I have bought her jewellry before and she has usually ended up taking it back as it wasn't what she wanted) and that would be perfect for her. Hence the holiday.
I was wondering if people generally thought this would be OK and secondly, if so, how could I make the proposal romantic enough without actually having the ring.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could always buy a cheap ring to use to propose with and then let her know that she can choose her own ring. I think it's totally fine to not have the actual engagement ring. It shows that you know your girlfriend well enough to know she'd prefer to choose it for herself!

I wouldn't even want the cheap ring (myself) IYSWIM... a romantic proposal over a candlelit dinner and the prospect of trawling round jewellers when I arrive back in Blighty...
*sighs VERY deeply*

Buy a packet of Hula Hoops :rotfl:
Seriously anything just for a temporary measure, obviously explain that it is only temporary and that you know she has an eye for detail and jewellery and that you would like her to pick her own beauitiful ring :heart2: 'Tied the Knot' Saturday 9th October 2010 :heart2::blushing: Member of Diet Club October 2010 Brides and Grooms :blushing:Starting Weight: 14 stone 10.8lbsCurrent Weight: 13 stone 2lbsTotal loss: 21.8lbs :j0 -

I reckon you should get a sweety ring, or hula hoop, or make one from paper or something like that
do the whole big romantic proposal...present her with the 'temp' ring and tell her she gets to go ring shopping...im pretty sure you will have one very happy and excited lady on your hands

My fiance proposed to me with a ring that he had chosen - he'd never bought me jewellery before, but he chose the most beautiful ring ever in exactly the right size!0

Thanks for all the wonderful ideas, must admit, it is certainly my sense of humour to go for the jelly ring........now where is that old ring box!!:rotfl:
Thanks also kezz, as I said, I have bought her rings before so know her finger size, it's just my and her taste differ slightly and I only plan on doing this once so want to get it perfect.0 -
I'm with the 'get her a temp ring'. Haribo sweet, or one of those naff rings you get in a 20p plastic egg lol
She will be over moon at your proposal, then she gets to shop for her own ring! I'm sure she will love to do that!!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0
