Philip meet Vera
I used to refill my Philips wet shaver shave balm sachets with Aloe Vera gel instead of buying the sachets new. It's got a pump mechanism you use as you shave (The whole system seems designed to get us moneysavers to keep spending on consumables as the shaver itself will last for years).
Soon got fed up with THAT!
Keep it simple
I found a small drop of the organic Aloe Vera gel from Holland & Barrett (often on special offer) on wet hands smeared over my face works better than any expensive branded (and heavily advertised) product. It works just as well with a BIC razor as it does with the shaver. The gel smells neutral so if you use a cologne you don't go out smelling like you broke the bottle!
And for that all important after shave preparation?
More of the same. Wet the hands, another small blob of Aloe gel & it helps soothe any razor burn. Also works as hair gel - not that I've got much mind!
Now I smell like me - not Hugo (not sure that's such a good thing though).0 -
My chap uses Original Source shaving foam as it contains essential oils and doesn't irritate.
My dad always swears by using shaving soap. I went to Mankind (via Pigsback.com to get some points) and bought him a shaving brush as well as a bowl of Geo. Trumper shaving soap (shaving brush cost £8 and the wooden bowl of soap - £16.95), my chap is having a similar present - only his is the same shaving brush and Geo. Trumper Rose shaving gel which comes in a large pot - this cost about £14 if memory serves me right.
Mankind - is found via Pigsback.com if you want to earn points but you can go direct and earn loyalty points: mankind.co.uk - they are quick to deliver and sometimes include some free samples in their parcels. I would recommend them.0 -
My OH has just signed up for something called "Movember" where you grow a moustache for a month and collect money for charity. Thing is, he had a beard before it started and had to shave it off in order to start growing it again... Fortunately he just went down the soap route and didn't bother buying anything.
He hasn't had any problems with soap, his only problem is getting up 5 minutes earlier to shave his chin which he isn't used to :rolleyes:0 -
I make up this mixture for OH:
in a 14ml dropper bottle:
half almond oil
half pomace olive oil (the cheapest sort)
6 drops essential oil ( I use 1 pine needles, 2 lavender, 3 sandlewood or cedarwood)
He uses home made soap for washing, and says that with that and the shaving oil he barely needs moisuriser afterwards in summer, a little more in winter, and hasn't used any sort of balm or soother for ages.0 -
I use plain soap for my legs and underarms. The only thing I do differently is use an exfoilator to lather it up- this gets rid of any dead skin cells that could cause lumps and nicks and gives an excellent shave. OH gave it a go on his face and was v. impressed with the results.Don't suffer alone - if you are experiencing Domestic Abuse contact the National Domestic Abuse Helplines
