Screwfix.com - Any others that should be considered?

Hi All,
I'm in the process of renovating a house that I bought recently and have been looking at the best places for sourcing deals on various DIY items.

So far I've found https://www.screwfix.com to be very competitive for many items (but not all it must be said).

Are there any other places that you can recommend for DIY supplies?

Used to use Screwfix but recently found this:-

    http://www.toolstation.com

    - they seem to undercut Scewfix's prices a bit.

For specifics talk to the guys on either of the following forums, generally helpful people and will often point you in the right direction for specific items, you get a mix of trades there so pretty much mosts questions will be answered:-

  • Screwfix are great for most items, but as mentioned above some things are not so cheap.

Toolstation is owned by the people that used to own screwfix before they sold it to Kingfisher.

Kingfisher also onw B&Q but screwfix is far cheaper!

I just saw the unifix website for the first time, in my opinion there website needs re-doing. The website put me off straight away, although they may be a good source?

Like Screwfix, it's better to order their catalogue and browse that. Their catalogues used to be the same size but now the Screwfix one is much thicker with more products. Unifix are cheaper on the odd item or two and do carry a few products that Sf don't have.

I too recommend Toolstation though I'd not heard of Unifix. Screwfix has recently quietly dropped its discountable items scheme, I notice.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.
  • I have bought a few tools from these guys and they are very good-

Their Teng screwdrivers are superb quality, much better than other makes available and have a lifetime guarantee.

They don't sell many items like screwfix etc. but I have bought quite a few essential tools from them and the quality is superb.

It depends on the specific items you want to buy. For heavy items like paving slabs you may be better visiting your local builder's merchant and asking for a discount. Many will give discounts to non-trade customers, especially if they buy a reasonable quantity. For more specialist items like wooden flooring, tiles etc... you may be able to find better quality and prices from specialist dealers. Most building materials companies will offer some sort of discount if you ask for it.
