Firstly thanks everyone, how mse is man wee,:rotfl: even saves on flushing the loo, going to stick a bucket next to bog! :j Also, as for G the P's bedding, I thought that is was bad to put it in, but then a leaflet from my local council said it was fine ( not that they know owt like) so thought I'd give it a go, better than putting it in the bin.G the P does a lot of P n poo!!
    Thankyou!:T

  • Glad tidings fellow gardeners! Has anyone got any hints/tips what I can use to hurry along my compost? I don't really weant to buy any "compost accelerator" would prefer to put something that will speed the process without having to part with my hard earned! I put in the usual, grass cuttings, veg peelings, tea bags, egg shells, egg boxes, coffee, the contents of my g.pigs house when it gets cleaned. I mushed it all up yesterday but it doesn't really seem to be doing much- what can I try?
    Much obliged:beer:

In the useful links sticky there's some good links on composting which should give you some help :)
  • i would recommend urine and also if you can get sea weed i add a layer to my compost heap works a treat
  • My compost has gone all wet and gooey, I have started to shred up all the scrap paper we have in the house and some newspapers, if I mix that in now will it save it does anyone know? I put my wee on it through the autumn (female though) and I assumed that was why it is so wet now? I think we have put too much kitchen waste in it, but we have fresh veg almost every day so what else should we do with it? SG
  • I put loads of veggie peelings in mine everyday, but also with a good mix of shreeded paper and cardboard should help as its more substantial then just paper, cardboard egg boxes, insides of the loo rolls and some cardboard box should help.

Id stop weeing in it to.. this should only be used occastionally say once or twice a year as an activator
Happiness is not having what you want...but wanting what you have!!!
  • Oh I have never put cardboard in it, that normally goes in the recycling or to the gerbil and hamster. Will go and add some now and thanks for the stop weeing tip (ooppps!). SG

Any vegetarian animal stuff is fine. SO gerbils, hamster, g.pigs, rabbits, no problem. Dogs, cats and snakes don't do it!

I bought some composting worms (and quite expensive they were too), but they all seem to have b******d off somewhere else, 'cos they are not in the compost heap any more.

The eggshells never seem to completely disintegrate in my heap - any suggestions as to how to get them to do so, please?
