Credit Card - over limit

2

Comments

  • Beware Halifax cashback card. Since receiving my card in Oct 08 I have paid what is requested on the statement and well before the due dates. However I have been charged interest and overlimit fees on several occasions which although they have been refunded after a lot of hassle it has cost me a fortune in telephone calls to sort it out. Apparently I went over the card limit once (how was I to know as my card wasn't refused.) The customer services dept told me it was the retailers fault, so do I claim my my overlimit fee back from them? - apparently not! Needless to say I have cut up the card and am shifting my Halifax accounts to a more responsible bank.
  • Halifax credit card services are a joke! I've held a/cs with them for over 35 years and their customer service has gone from bad to worse. They charge interest and overlimit fees willy nilly and the customer picks up the telephone tab!

    That is really impressive.

They've only offered credit cards for 22 years.

If that's the case, why not vote with your feet?

a/c = account. a/cs = accounts. No specific mention of credit cards there, just accounts which could be a number of things.

It's actually your responsibility to ensure your account does not go over limit or you miss any payments. Halifax are quite within their rights to charge you because you did infact breach the terms and conditions, which you signed when taking the credit card.

Responsible bank? There is no such thing. Every bank will charge you for going over your limit. You and only you can prevent that from happening. In future, keep track of your spending.

Consider yourself lucky for getting the charges refunded.

The post clearly refers to Halifax credit card services. The mention could not have been more specific! - "Halifax credit card services are a joke! I've held a/cs with them for over 35 years".

Am I the only one who thinks that this is a little unfair?

No - the OFT also think its unfair, as the charge is more than £12.
