Freeview could be a cheaper option, if you don't need an aerial upgrade.
Just be aware that you won't be able to get E4 or More 4.

You mean you won't be able to get E4 or More 4 via satellite. They're both on Freeview.

    Hi
What am I missing here, why not just get a freeview box for £20-30, no subscriptions and you get E4, E4+ More 4 etc, or buy a Toppy like me:smiley:

    Hi,
I think if you live in a good freeview reception area (~75% of country), then you are right. According to the freeview checking website, my area in Berkshire cannot get freeview. In reality, I get some blocks of channels, though its all rather random (my previous flat was better than current house I moved to). Maybe an aerial upgrade would help, but thats a costly experiment. I got freesat on the cheap (box from ebay for 20 quid, already had a dish), and it works very well.
Oh, and if you like shopping channels, freesat is also the better option -- OMG how many shopping channels can exist?! :o

(Edit: the original question about the 150 quid Sky deal. Since it covers digibox + dish + freesat card + full installation, it would appear a good deal. )

Freesat from sky seems terrible value. Sky-free receivers are sold in lidl for 70 or 80 quid and you can get them cheaper abroad, so I reckon it works out at about 70 or 80 quid for the sky label, an encryption device you mostly won't use and the installation of very variable quality (a good DIYer can do it easily and they won't do a rush job).

This is all so Sky can have your details for marketing and it's just enough to deter BBC from launching their freesat offer which was going to happen earlier this year. C4 and five should be forced unencrypted like BBC/itv by Ofcom.

    As is obliquely mentioned above:

Channels 4 and Five cannot be received with a "$ky free" receiver (Lidl, Comag etc).

    Take care.
