Other than getting a passport before she goes (which I'm assuming there's not enought time for), I doubt there's must she can do.

I would have thought that going to the Republic of Ireland is no different than going to France, Spain or any other EU country and a passport would be needed.

What made her think she didn't need a passport?

Edit: Found details on the Common Travel Area between the UK and Eire so problem appears to be be just RyanAir policy.

  • I believe the photo card from your driving licence will suffice.

You HAVE to have a passport now, even for England to Ireland crossings, with Ryanair.

Travel between Ireland and the UK or UK Domestic travel

    • Citizens of Ireland and the UK must carry some form of official photo identification. The following forms of photo identification are acceptable:
      • Valid Passport
      • Drivers licence with photo
      • International student card
      • National ID card / Government issued photo ID cards
      • Health Insurance cards with photo / Social security cards with photo
      • Bus pass with photo
      • Work ID with photo
    • Citizens of Ireland and the UK under the age of 16, do not need a photo ID, if travelling with their parent/guardian.
    • Citizens of countries other than Ireland and the UK must produce a valid passport and visa where applicable, for travel between Ireland and the United Kingdom.

No. Not a 'stupid Ryanair policy' - it's their policy and it was agreed to upon booking.

The only 'stupid' here is the person who failed to check the terms and conditions of their booking.

Yet again, people blame Ryanair when it's their own fault.

    Hear Hear!!!
  • my sister came from dublin last week and could not find her passport, ryanair allowed her to use her driving licence but you can't do online checkin with a driving licence so I think they charged her an additional £20 each way to check in at the airport

That's now officially stopped and it's a passport or nothing.

Isn't Kerry in ROI? in which case, isn't it just the same as travelling to any other country, and a passport would be needed? I don't think it's anything specific to Ryanair...
