I think u have to leave the old chip oil for a few weeks and you tip a few teaspoons of white spirit. U have to have a diesel car to make this work! But I am not the one who's responsible if your car breaks!

It may be cheap to make, but you must still pay customs the same amount of tax you pay on commercial petrol or deisel. Your running costs will increase due to the damage you will do to your engine.

This depends on the car you choose.
The old style Mercedes 190/250 will run fine and there are examples that have done over 100,000 miles on veg oil without a problem. The Citroen Peugeot td engines also run without problems. Make sure you don't have a Lucas fuel pump and you should be ok. The main thing, as always, do your research!

  • Hello, like everyone else, we're suffering badly from the spiralling cost of diesel fuel impacting our ever more thinly stretched family budget. We have a family 1991 estate car powered by a normally aspirated Diesel engine and would like to find a much cheaper fuel than forecourt Diesel.

We have heard a lot about chip fat and whatnot, but could do with some honest simple advice on alternatives, such as what we can safely use, what to do with it and where to get it, etc.

    Can anyone help please?

Thank you in advance and in anticipation.

For more information and help from the people that have been doing it for years, http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/ and click on forum.

I suspect your just looking for a hassle free method (new oil off the shelf) so simply find out if your car can, then add it to your tank.

    Good luck.

LPG is a safer alternative if you don't want to drive around in an old car -- the newer engines won't appreciate being run on chip fat.
